Sleeper,
Hard to say as I have not had many folks with comparitive data. Sheets were either old or not the same exact build although bring yours if you have them.

I would say that on my ARCA cars the Jet that I ran on in Charlotte was a lot easier to spin up and therefore made the torque curve fatter on the bottom and a little easier to get top end power.

The wheel on the SuperFlow is 3500# and not real easy to spin up so the torque curve generated is almost identical to the acceleration what you would see on the street. Time to speed should be withing about 1% of tested results if gearing and tire diameter are recorded properly. It was designed to reproduce these parameters pretty close to real time / real life.

This dyno is really and instantaneous accelerometer 2500HP / 250mph. The sampling rate is on the order of 10,000 - 1,000,000 times more data per run than almost all other publicly purcchased chassis dynos. I use it for very basic HP and Torque curve generation although there are many more uses for it's data gathering capabilities.

I guess you could say it would be like comparing a magnifying glass to an electron microscope in terms of precision, accuracy and data analysis when you compare sampling rates.

For 99.9999% of the world any dyno will give you the results you are looking for. In my case ( I am always the .00001 ) I needed to know how many MPG's I could save by changing air bleeds in a Carburetor by .001", and also how .1# of fuel pressure would affect the power level and fuel consumption at 200mph or how much power is gained / lost by changing gear pitch by 1 degree in a ring and pinion set or transmission gearset, How much power is gained or lost with 1#,2#,3# of change in tire pressure. This type of work requires a scientific approach & A-B-A testing with absolute repeatability and that is what I have.

Long story short...the SF #'s should be a conservative but accurate measure of what your car will do on the road and if you run 50-150mph in 5 seconds, then your car will do exactly that on the street. If those numbers are correct than you can infer that the torque measurments are accurate and then the HP calculations should also be right on.

As far as goodies we are still working on the particulars but will post as soon as it is all ciphered out. Next day or so...

Look forward to having y'all out.

We will prolly stay running til as late as we can, last night we made our last pull at about midnight and the Cops did not roll up so maybe we can run til 9-10-11 if we still have folks to run...

My plan was to see how many cars wanted to run and if there were too many we might select out who could come back on Sunday after lunch??? Just an idea.

Just wanted to repeat, can't run 4wd / awd Sorry...

Just a quick update, hotties run for 1/2 price and topless hotties run free!!!

Did I just say that, Oh hell yea I did !!! Sorry I am just that way...

BTW, I have race gas and alcohol if anyone need it, It is VP got some nice gas pretty econo at $6 gal. will support 12:1. We hove some other flavors also for boost and high speed stuff. Bring your own jug if you want to take it with.

No problem with Automatics, we do not descriminate...we even run Mustangs and Corvettes when the owners take them out from under the car covers...

Did I say that out loud??? I guess running the dyno til 2a.m. yesterday has wobbled my sense of political correctness & hearing.

We picked up a Crate Engine chevy late-model almost 300ft.lbs from 2500-5000rpm and 51 hp from 5000-6200. About 1 1/2 days on the dyno.

Let's see customer bought a new Braswell Carb for $2600 was +5hp, spent 11 hours on the dyno @$200hr = 2200 and got +50hp...

Which was cheaper ???

dynoman14

Simon,
Without sounding like an a$$hole I am going to preach a little about octane mis-information. Not at you but for all who care to take the healing...Engine fuel selection is really a function of piston speed and engine power level expected.

I like to sell it, but in most cases it hurts power output if you are doing real world acceleration testing. If I sell something to my circle track customers that slows their car down, I am not very popular guy; even if it supposed to make more power.

I test everything!!!

What does this mean??? Well there are 50 different race fuels that are 110 octane, why do some make more power and some make way more power???

You have to have the expertise to match the burn rate of the fuel to the engine you are testing. You have to test them on the engine / chassis dyno to determine what is best for your car. Diesel has an motor octane rating of 120+ but you would not run it in your gas engine. In an 18:1 Cat it will make 2000ft/#.

What you will find is that lower octane fuel will have the greatest capacity for BTU production ( Energy = Power ) when burned.

Long story short, to make the most power you have to match the fuel with the lowest octane you engine can stand, while still maintaing the proper burn rate to accomodate your piston speed and you will have the best fuel for your engine.

More on this topic will be in some upcoming Tech articles I will be writing for Nissan Sport Mag, along with a Nissan engine build for a drift / drag / road race application.

I have a good guess what will run in most engines and we can test from there.

THX,

Yea, dyno pulls will be consecutive, it takes longer to tie the car down properly, than it does to make the pulls. You should be able to adjust your Sqiurts system in between pulls as long as you don't get any on the Dynoman.

L,ville is about 15-20 miles from Statham you can either roll up 316N and take a left at the light past mile marker 16... or roll-up Atlanta Hwy about 7 mile NE of Winder.

Chevy #604 crate 350" engine; gains were +301ft# @2500rpm and 51hp @ 6200rpm. I took 2 days but the last 20hp is always the hardest.

We should be able to get another 30-40hp on the top end with some electrical signal clean-up, plug wires, adjustable oil pressure bypass and one of my "Magic Carbs".

Domino's Pizza and MCD's tea hooked up for lunch.

Think the Geo would be too bad for the roll-in at the Winder Sonic 4-9. Might try and show up and see y'all again. I gotta get my squealing serpentine belt fixed first...I don't even know if it will fit on the lift, damn.

Sonic is on the way home and well I really like the wild milk shakes and slushies !!! You get some VDKA and mix it in and Hoooahhh!!! I be lookin like Rusty pretty soon...

SuperDave is a bad man, I don't think I could cover him if he spotted me a 3 bagger. I wanna go next time to cover some of the side bets...I might better bring BigJ just in case...

Thanks for all the nice stuff y'all said, you just don't know me yet...hahaha

Running a couple dirt cars this week and maybe a pavement Late-Model or two.

dave,
I might just roll out to the Winder roll at the Sonic wednesday, we are going to pick-up an old Mustang I have had sitting for a while, if it runs we might take it up there ( with a for sale sign on it ). I am guessing 50 would not even be enough...last time I bowled about 3 years ago I tweaked my back and could not move for a week. Had to quit golf and bowlin, too much lo-back torque.

Tunnel,
I would def go boost, it is too cheap for the power. take your VE and we'll swap out the pistons, add rings, bearings, hone and balance some ARP studs and a main girdle and she should be ready for 500+.

Kinda funny no Honda's showed is that normal ???

I know everybody had some nice stuff and it was all pretty stout but I guess I was most surprised by the Cobalt, I never knew they were that strong.

If weather is right Sunday we might go drift the Mustang if we can get it running...

What year and is it black by any chance? You have any pictures and how much are you asking for it?

Oh who and where is the dirt track action gonna be at?

Bugman,
Sorry, did not get a message that you hit the thread...price??? I am not sure, it's got a cop motor, cop transmission and cop ashtray...I purchased it from Randleman NC PD when I was up there on a Petty project a couple years ago. It came out of a Crown Vic with 21,000 miles that was wrecked in a pursuit. Engine was running about 2 months ago and then had a hard start problem, replaced the coil and it was fine. Yesterday the thing just about tried to burn up as a short must have happened on start-up and burned a wire in the harness...

Will have to figure it out and then get it running again, I think the problem was in the steering column.

Anyway, you can keep in touch on it. I need to snag a couple parts like a front fascia and maybe rear bumper plastic, to make the outside nice and then work on the inside with a couple doo-dads.

Dirt car was on the dyno last couple days, picked up 250 ft# 2500-4500rpm and 57HP 4500-6800. Carb, timin, jets, metering block, air bleeds. Still got 50-75 more hp in ignition noise and a "magic carb".

Wish we could make it out Saturday but we are racing in Valdosta with a customer.

out,
DM14
