There's been a ton of research in the last 10 or so years about animals and art... mainly elephants and chimps/apes. The idea being that the reason that humans have art is that, at it's most basic, we found a way to replicate what we saw in a permanent form... thousands of years ago, we found that we could use coal/burnt wood, clay, plants, etc to record day to day events and things we saw. The question is, now that humans have developed the technology, do animals possess the same ability to record what they see? While those elephants may have been trained to do that (I dunno if they were or not), there are chimps and elephants at zoos that create artwork that, while it is crude and rudimentary due to a lack of fine motor skills like humans have, does seem to reflect day to day events, which gives researchers the idea that when given the technology, animals do have the ability to create art.
It's cool as hell to me. :) Cool vid... reps to ya
