Buddy of mine got really excited when I put a computer in my car awhile back, Well now its his turn, so today we got the computer compartment finished and software installed. Tomorrow running the 10001 wires so the computer can control everything, replacing the silver screws with black screws, and I'll go back over and clean the holes and cuts up a bit. I'll post more pics tomorrow

not really hard, just drink a little jager, and think "how can i fit all this in this little space :) And you need a little cash, I think total computer, screen, connectors wires, dc power supply and all cost is around 1500. My setup was a little cheaper, but his will have a broadband card onboard, and gps etc...

You could do it for much less, he's just a gamer and well he was originally going to try and build a machine that would run crysis but we talked him out of it lol

The computer is located in a little cubby compartment thats in the back of the pathfinder. We could of just put it in a shuttle case, but meh thats to easy :) The computer screen for now is placed behind the dash trim where the original double din was for the radio. I tried to convince him to let me mold it into the trim but it would void the warranty on the screen, so until the warranty is up it'll sit behind the trim, though we are trying to see if we can find one of these screens thats been burned out or fried, if we can then we'll mold it in. I'll have more pics posted tomorrow

You can get premade carputers for cars, but your so limited in what you get out of them, and the fact that they OVER charge you for them. Both of us build our computers and we are religiously spending days at frys, microtech and spending hours on newegg, so doing a complete DIY is much more appealing to us then buying a premade.

For this one we've got it running Xplite (basically a hacked version of windows) it'll boot and be playing music within 15 seconds of turning the key. It'll also never shut down, when you turn the car off it goes into hibernation mode, allowing it to boot even quicker (the computer shuts off but it doesn't shut windows down it just tells the computer and power supply basically to take a nap). It's also running some carputer software that does music, dvds, mp3s, GPS, Weather, Engine monitor, XM/Sirius, Rear Camera and a bunch of other stuff.

One of our other toys we're going to start building is a Mineral Oil computer, thats Cooled by usings Nitrogen lol Should be fun :)

Nice setup, but that hard drive is going to die very soon. Get a flash drive for laptops (laptop hard drive with flash memory), that will last a lot longer.

Nah it'll last i had mine in the car for 2 years, and never had a problem with it. Infact most people use the regular hd as they dont have any issues anymore
