this thread kinda mis-guides.
All wheel manufacturers have to follow the industry standard for both OEM and NON-OEM wheels by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) which is stamped on the backside of all wheels and a company has to meet or exceed the specs and regulations set forth by "SAE". All wheels have their limitations...which is why there are FWD and RWD application specific wheels. There are also cases of HRE's, CCW's, and FISKE's having wheels separate just as you have ROTA's shown.
If it was a cut and dry case of these individuals launching off the line or doing a hard stop in every day driving, then there would be a problem, but the fact remains these individuals were driving or pushing these wheels beyond SAE regulations, where the manufacturer no longer holds any blame. Now, for race applications yes the wheels are held to a higher standard but does that mean they are indestructible? No, because of the amount of heat that is produced in hard braking and quick cool downs effects the overall integrity of the wheels, and after time of alot of hard use...they will too separate or crack.
point is, all wheels are held to the same standard otherwise they would not be in business and all these claims againest the company would have had them shut down long ago...but viable evidence proves that the wheels were used beyond their limits.

thats from over tightening lug nuts, not the forging on the wheel being bad.
Plus, there was a thread on HT awhile back about this an come to find out alot of those pics are wheels from cars that were wrecked and slammed into a curb.
The pics make the JDM fanboys feel better about their $3000 rims ;)
Now, it depends on what kind of knockoff you get. Knockoffs are like XEROX copies. A copy of the original is hard to tell the difference. But once you do a copy of a copy of a copy of a copy of a copy .....
The copy gets worse an worse as you go.
Then ther is SAE Standards, which is another post altogether
So id stick with ROTA and SPORTMAX and stay away from SSK and SPOOM

I wasnt talking about YOU, i was generalizing. Lets face it most of the guys that bash ROTAs or SPORTMAXs are advocating $3000 VOLKS or WORKS.
Im sorry, but 90% of the people out there arent buying $3000 wheels for their $2000 civic or integra or 240 , etc.
There is nothing wrong with ROTAs, matter of fact they are BRILLIANT by filling a niche market with quality wheels that look like their expensive counterparts.
I know guys with SPOON wheels that wouldnt hesitate a second to purchase ROTA if their wheels got damaged or stolen.
Dont believe me?

why do you say this? Is it from experience or hearsay? I agree with mr.kidd. I have had a few sets of Rotas and no problems. If they were as crappy as these 3 pics show, then they would be out of business. You would see thousands and thousands of pics. People still rocking them and if you choose to buy the real ones cool, but don't knock someone for not wanting to spend $2000+ on wheels for a $2000 car :screwy:

T(e)mo78 - most "new" wheel companys make crappy cheap wheels to start off with its a simple fact, how about that WHOLE year when Konig wheels starting bending left and right, spokes cracked and their "new" line of wheels were basically defective? just what happens cutting costs etc etc idk how to make wheels and all that but Konig fixed it and now they are fine, i'm sure Rota was having the same issues and just the same they will fix it and be fine, quality control here. but still... i haet teh rotars...simple as that...we all learn from mistakes

Come on people, broken spokes aren't caused by over tightened lug nuts! The hub regions are completely intact. I'm sure these breakages were all caused due to wreck-like conditions, not just riding down the road. Ive had cars come into work with broken STEEL WHEELS. Its not impossible. But if anyone wants to sell their Rotas for cheap im not skeered :)

I highly doubt any of that happend while they were driving down the road. I recall seeing one of these pic on honda-tech, and the owner said he hit a curb. I heard of other cases where people hit pot holes to. That can happen to almost any aftermarket rim if you hit a curb.

My apologies then, i didn't detect your sarcasm lol.
That being said Ive had a set of Rota c8's for about 4 years now, many sets of tires, probably 100k miles of highway driving and high stress mountain driving etc.. basically theyve been through everything aside from a full race situation and are still in great condition, no stress signs or any damage. It simply wouldnt be feasible for me to find a set of real mugen wheels.

Its amazing to me how people FORGET how important a quality wheel is. So much stress is on that wheel, especially if you drive hard or track it. Thank goodness for O.Gs and research as I decided on the track proven BBS wheels this go round. When I was a newbie, I did the knock off thing and the freaking wheels chipped and bent like no tomorrow.
I will NEVER recommend wheels that are not from top quality brands.
Its not just Rotas or other cheap brands. Some expensive companies like SEVAS have had issues as well. The problem is EVERYONE is saying "forged" but there are MANY different ways to forge, most use the cheapest way possible then sell the wheels.
