well i quit my pervious job a few days ago, i was given a key so that i could open\close as the kitchen manager


when i quit i walked out, with key in hand

i attempted to call several time the following day and was neverspoken to


so now a few days later i go to pick up my last check and drop off the key
i wait for 2.5 hr's for the owner to show up

when she finally does arrive she tells me that since i just left they had to have the locks changed and i owed her 500$ for the locks, also that she is going to hold my paycheck untill i pay the money

is this legal??

or did i just get fucxked reall bad

btw my check was for maybe 400 bones

im also screwed considering i have insurance,credit card bills, and some doctor bills to pay off

and now i have nothing

No this does not appear to be legal. You can inquire w/ the Dept of Labor to make sure.

- also noteable that she never once tried to contact you to get the key.

I can't comment on your knowledge of engines because I don't know anything about it myself, but all other areas of (whatever), I can pretty much comment on. And, as usual, you give pretty bad info. First off, he should left the key on initial walk-out. With someone in charge. I know he said he called the next day, but I wouldn't have waited several days afterward. I wouldn't have even called that following day. They have a business to protect. Since they didn't hear from him for several days and they have no record of his calls, they have no other recourse except to change the locks out. They don't know what he could do. If they aren't willing to work with you (and they probably won't only because they don't want to take the $500 hit), then you're out that last paycheck. Later, QD.

It's not in a lot of cases. I know of many companies that have this policy. A lot of times, these policies are in somewhere in the employees guidelines or paperwork. Nor did she give you intructions on what happens once you are no longer employed there (as far as the key goes). How many keys do they have - what list can she provide of people that have keys --- are these records accurate? Is there a "DO NOT COPY" stamp on the key? If no... ANY1 who has ever had a key there could get back in... I could go on.

If u go to ccourt, just argue that u left the key in the store when u walked out. And argue that you have bills to pay and that u gave part of your life to her stupid company, and for her to repay you like that, is un-human.

definitely sounds like BS to me...just threaten escalating it unless you get your check... Or somehow acquire your check(perhaps covertly w/ a friend who works there)... deposit it and let them never hear from you again lol... If they try to come at you, they can't prove they gave you a key to begin with, since you didn't sign for it lawl... Thats what i'd do.
