You need a snell M2000 or SA2000 (or newer) helmet, DOT helmet doesnt cut it.

08 NHRA rulebook says it, generally helmet certs are only good for 10 years under nhra rules, and commerce is an nhra sanctioned track. Ultimately its up to tech and the guys at the line, but its still technically the rule.

Unless you're running under a 12sec 1/4, a DOT helmet should be fine.

No. Nowhere in the book is a DOT helmet accepted. 13.49 or faster, snell 00' helmet, and all verts.

Most tracks will allow any kind of helmet, or just not require one at all, if you're running slower than a 13. Not sure about Commerce's rules though.

Thats a tricky question, but for a track to be SANCTIONED by the NHRA, they have to abide by NHRA rules for all events.

I've run well into the 10s, but I've never once actually had my helmet checked on the drag strip. Food for thought.

Ditto. A guy I know tried to use a DOT helmet at Commerce the other week and the techs didn't approve the helmet. :goodjob:

I personally wouldn't wear a helmet if it wasn't Snell approved. The DOT tests on helmets are laughable.
