View Full Version : putting all the cards on the table

After alot of thinking, the best thing i can come up with is to put all the marbles on the table and see where they fall. You have to remember this is a tough position for me because if i sit back and say nothing, people will think i have something to hide, and if i attack BG, it will be because im a disgruntled ex-employee which is not necessarily the fact.

The Setup
I started work at Batlground in June of 2007. I was approached by both Topspeed and Batlground at the same time. After meeting with both, it seemed, at the time, that the better opportunity existed with BG.

I had some concerns that needed to be addressed prior to starting at BG:

1) Take a substantially lower salary so that i may be able to PROVE myself over time. I took only what i needed to SURVIVE. This was $300/week or $7.50/hour. BG offered me 10% commission on profit of new parts sales and 5% on used part sales. i agreed to their offer.

2) we agreed that within 6 months i would either receive a part-ownership or profit sharing in the company, both of which never happened.

3) I wanted full control over posting and sales and customer service

I came to Batlground with some of my own vendors, sales associates and clientel. I was happy to pass those contacts and "deals" off to my current employer , BATLGROUND.

Around september of 2007 i was approached by a person (we will call him Mr. X) that had a good deal on some Honda products, they were Replica headers. This contact approached me through a vendor of mine. I asked Dan if he was interested, after a little convincing Dan let me purchase the headers through MY CONTACT.

I sold these headers on IA and on HT and other forums. I came up with the idea to sell on EBAY as well, after several WEEKs of pestering my bosses for access to ebay accounts, i finally decided to do it myself. I created a name and started selling headers on ebay along with OTHER BATLGROUND USED PARTS.

ALL MONIES MADE BY ME WERE PAID TO BATLGROUND VIA CASH. I HAVE ALL RECORDS AND RECEIPTS ALONG WITH SPREADSHEETS.

Around September Scot Siegel came to work for BG under the same premise. Work an prove yourself to later become a a partial owner or partner in the business. After 45 days, he quit and went to Topspeed.

I stuck it out and made Batlground a substantial amount of money by moving new parts to existing customers, new customers, and some of my past customers. i also sold their old parts on several different forums.

In january we started out using Quickbooks as an accounting system. I spent several HUNDRED HOURS setting the system up, using it, screwing it up and fixing it , etc. Up until the time i left, it was still not 100% accurate but i would feel comfortable saying it was 99% accurate with some bugs to work out.

By the middle of February, i started wondering what was going on with the "partnership and Profit sharing" that i was promised in our original discussions. After several DEAD END conversations with Dan, i became frustrated and upset. My bills were piling up, i was in a financial bind because what i was making was just barely enough for me to SURVIVE. I felt after 7 months, i had brought in enough business, been loyal enough and done enough to prove that i was worth a "raise."

The Problem

Around this time (mid feb) i sold out of all the replica headers we had. I also ended up selling my silvia for a substantial amount of money. I was approached via email by "MR. X" again about possibly purchasing some headers and new products. Rather than cut BG out and use my own money, i again passed this deal onto Batlground.

After the initial 6 months had passed, several attempts to obtain a raise, get some form of profit-sharing, or a part-ownership deal going and nothing coming from it, i was left with no avenue but to make extra money one way or another. At this time i was approached again by "Mr. X" about doing another buy in for a different product. I decided to purchase REG B series headers OUTSIDE OF BATLGROUND.. I had all my headers shipped to an outside party.

I Gave the outside party access to my paypal and my EBAY account an told him all i wanted was my money back plus $30 per header he sold.

In hindsight this was probably not the most ethical thing i could have done. I realize now it was probably a bad decision and in the end i was only hurting myself. i wasn't competing directly with BG because i was selling headers that they didnt even carry. however, in hindsight, i do recognize the fact that i could have found another stream of revenue w/o it being a conflict of interests. I should have quit at that time , but i tried to just keep everything going for as long as i could. again, hindsight is 20/20.

I want to reiterate that i NEVER STOLE BUSINESS NOR CUSTOMERS FROM BATLGROUND. All labor and installs INCLUDING tuning were ALWAYS run through Batlground. I simply invested some of my PERSONAL money in some products that they didn't carry in order to help alleviate some of the financial burden i had incurred while "proving" myself to BG.

At the beginning of my employment, the responsibilities i agreed to included: sell parts, run the Batlground Parts Store (which i spent 3 months working on and we NEVER USED, http://parts.batlground.com/). I was also supposed to book and schedule appointments. that was our original agreement and that was what i was paid for. however, many additional responsibilities were added and i was never compensated for the additional workload.

below is a list of some of my additional duties:

Marketing
Advertising
Accounting
Consulting
Paying Personal and business Bills
Shop Operations
Sometimes yes, i EVEN WORKED ON CARS. While Dan and Tracy were off at SEMA, i PERSONALLY did Lawrence Starks GSR swap in his EG. I also did various labor things like pull and remove parts while brandon was busy, electrical diagnoses on cars. So this notion that i never worked on cars is again, simply false.

Now, i NEVER TOOK CREDIT FOR ANY WORK THAT BRANDON OR DAN DID AT THE SHOP. I have nothing but respect for Dan and Brandon in regards to the tuning and labor they perform. as far as im concerned i went above and beyond what was initially asked of me and i did it with professionalism and respect. If people considered me to be "the face" of BG, it was never my intention. my only intention was to provide a service to our customers that no one could look back on and say anything negative.

On Monday dan asked me about a header that was sold outside of batlground and at first i told him it was none of his business, then i finally told him the truth. I also had a 4 hour heart to heart with him and basically at the end of the conversation i came to 3 conclusions

1) I was never going to be paid what i think im worth
2) I was never going to be a partner unless i invested a substantial amount of money into the business
3) I was better off walking away and cutting ties than lying to myself and staying at BG

I decided to QUIT. I walked away on my own terms, i even settled peoples bills that were outstanding to HELP BATLGROUND tie up any loose ends.

I ran a forum for Batlground (they paid for advertising on K20a.org) and i have since emailed the owner of K20a.org an told him to take down the forum and put it in batlgrounds name. I had my name and my threads deleted.

I want to take responsibility for the actions i took, any damage i may have caused myself or others, and i want to come clean so there is NO SPECULATION. I have always been honest and upfront, people that KNOW me , know that i have a great passion for my friends, my customers , and my family. at the end of the day, i just wanted to come clean and let everyone know where i may have done something wrong and why it happened.

im not going to get into specifics. in the next few days im sure many fine details will be released and some of it may be true and some of it may not be. BG was fully aware of all my actions and responsibilities. Dan was my boss and was "on top" of me 24/7. tracy, on the other hand, has not been in the shop more than handful of times in the last 9 months. so take what you hear with a grain of salt. i wish nothing but the best for BG and its staff.

at this point in my life, i have realized that i can't count on anyone but myself. If i want something in life, i have to go for it. i can't count on someone else to help make me successful. i have to go do it for myself.

this will be my only post concerning this situation NO MATTER WHAT IS SAID.

again, best of luck to BG... and cheers to a new chapter in my life.

don't have alot to say about this situation... but i can say that with this thread/post, i can commend mike on being up front and honest which is how he has always been. i don't know all the details, but im sure mike did what he had to do and made the decisions he made because he must have been in a bad predicament. i lived with him for over a year w/o any problems and i can say that he isn't the type of person do someone wrong.

with that being said... i hope both parties can clear this up without any serious issues.

good luck to you and your future endeavors bro! call me when you're ready to make real money! lol

Yea, no shiit....

Mr Kidd, I respect the fact that YOU did what YOU had to do to make ends meet because honestly, NO ONE is going to take care of you but yourself. As far as I am concerned, what YOU do on YOUR time is YOUR BUSINESS. Nothing that you did per what you posted was unethical...Like I said per what you have stated...

All this bandwagoning and sensationalizing of the story is BS...

I like Tracy but I'm not afraid to say that this was the completely wrong venue to air whatever grievances that BG may have had with you...
IMO, some things have been handled unprofessionally.

I hope that BG or more specifically Tracy, does not stoop to the level of defamation and libel that will undoubtedly fuk with your money and tarnish your reputation, whatever that may be...This shiit should have never made it on this forum, point blank....

I wasn't happy with 7.50/hr when I was 15 working at just for feet (before it closed down). I have no idea how you stuck in there for so many months. Or what was promised to you was that worthwhile.

i dont blame u for trying to make money on the side cuz 7.50hr aint **** and i dont see how u made it for that long. i am doing my apprienticeship at cadillac and make 1.50 more then u and i struggle as well, i did the same thing u did. i found a way to make money on the side w/o taking business from the dealership. i just told the co owners and shop foreman about wat i had been doing cuz i didnt wat then to think i was taking money from them, suprisingly they were ok wit it.

but honestly i could have told u that they werent going to give u a peice of wat is theres cuz thats how most people in life are (sad to say). most people nowdays who open businesses will never allow and "outsider" to own a peice of wat they created. so it's always better to negociate a $ amount, allow then to offer a partnership later down the road.

i hope everything works out for u cuz u seem like an honest person and would lend a hand to someone if they needed it. just remember that god has people in situaions in life to make u a better and stronger person.

if i were i u. i would try and open ur own store, u could start out like u did wit and Ebay account and then go from there. wit ur contact it probably wouldn't be hard.

I have been working for Habitat for Humanity doing construction for the past 10 months, and while I love my job, by far the worst part is dealing with port a potties.

Yesterday, I was at the worksite and I just couldn't hold it in any longer. I went into our port-a-potty and sat down to poo. For anyone who has used port-a-potties a lot, you know that one of the terrible side effects, aside from the general grossness of port a potties, is the feeling of blue chemically laced pee/poo sludge water from previous users splashing back in/on your butt as you drop one from about three feet up.

To deal with this, I have come up with a variety of techniques, including my favorite, placing a little toilet paper raft into the poo hole to catch your poo and drop it gently into the vat of ****, however this isn't always possible when the **** vat has not yet changed phase from liquid --> solid sludge. I also try to shape my poo into longer logs in order to lessen the drop and reduce impact upon point of contact with liquid.

So there I was, trying to wiggle my butt into a long log of poop, when it broke off in the middle and *splash*, there goes the most vile filth splashing everywhere on my ass. It is times like this recently when I pause, sigh, and ask God why he does these things when I am trying to do good things for the world and be a good person.

I reach over to the toilet paper roll to wipe off this nastiness as best as I can, and as I do so, pause, sigh, and ask God why he does these things as I notice that there is no toilet paper in the port a potty.

After weighing my options for a few seconds, I realize I'm just going to have to zip up and deal. As I'm pulling up my pants, feeling this gross sludge drip down my leg, and having an existentialist moment questioning life, I walk ten feet over to our government van to see if there is any sort of paper product I can use to wipe up without my coworkers noticing.

I spend about five minutes looking around, and the most absorbent thing I have found up to this point is a bunch of crayola crayon wrappers, which I am seriously considering stripping off the crayons and using. However, a few moments later I spot out of the corner of my eye a cottonny-looking thing. It is a maxi pad.

"No, I can't do this," I think to myself. "This is beyond ridiculous." But ridiculous times cause for ridiculous deeds, and I think What Would MacGuyver Do as I grab the pad and go back to the port a potty. After wiping myself off, I look at this blue water stained, poo stained, pee stained maxi pad and think, "What on earth am I going to do with this thing?" I think back to high school chemistry class and buoyancy vs. density. Will this maxi pad float above the ****-water and mock me, being visible to everyone else who uses the port a potty for the rest of the week? Or will it sink mercifully to the bottom, hiding all evidence of my grossness? It is a tough and thoughtful decision, but eventually I guess that the pad will sink, and boy am I happy when I am right!

This temporary joy is fleeting, though, as I realize how pathetic I have become at being happy that my ****-stained maxi pad is sinking to my cheers and fist-pumping adulation - that is why I HATE port a potties.

If you think he was lieing about your car... get the person who bought it to post up and say there was absolutely nothing wrong with it.
go look at any of my post on the car and please find one where I said the car was perfect. God, everyone on Ia is just ****ing dumb now.

Mike and I don't always agree on things but in all honesty he did tell me the car was a good deal but it definitely needed work.

LOL. That's a funny tall tale. You should think about getting into writing fiction novels as your new job.

Later, QD.

Hey man, reading what you have to say it must have taken alot of time to get all your thoughts and make sure you are honest.

We all do what we have to do in certain situations. The strong will rise and the weak will fail. You did what you had to do to get by and thats the end of it. Every single one of us that has been there knows they would. If they don't, they fail and they know it.

LOL. Some people are so gullible. This is seriously a trip to see how ignorant people can be sometimes. I guess it's true when they say ignorance is bliss. I wonder if I write a 20 page fiction novel if I will get sympathy. Maybe I'll try it.

......... tracy.... in your post yesterday you said you were gonna avoid the drama...

now you're callin him out in his thread... calling it "fiction"....

if you want to avoid drama... quit stirring it up...

i know neither of you personally... and i'm not taking sides... i just think if you wanted to stay out of it... then you would actually stay out of it...

whether this story is true or not true.. i personally don't think it makes either person/shop/whatever look worse than the other... nor does it lead me to choose sides...

No. That's not what I said. I said I don't feel the need to call him out on what he did....that I was going to take the high road and not do that. I even went on to say that I would keep the story to myself unless I was forced. Looks to me like I am being forced with a story full of lies. I can quote if you wish.

right... well even if this story isn't true.. it's not making batlground/you look bad... so there is no need to call it out...

that's all i'm saying..

i think echonova said it best earlier.... "there are 3 sides to every story... his/yours/and the truth..." imo i'd let it rest unless this directly hurts your business... which i highly doubt it will do...

You right it should have not been brought to this forum.

Reread it, Killer. She said she wasn't going to "start" any drama, but if it were put out there, she would respond. Later, QD.
