this is not a debate. its not if its safe to cross its ok to cross. the mtn run for the turns not turning the mtn into a racetrack. if you have to go line to line take it to the track. if you cant keep it in two lanes then that you are given i cant expect you to stay in the one lane on richard b or 180. its not safe period. there werent alot of bikes up when we went but as the weather warms they will out number us. and if you cause a rider to go down. or mess up and he comes after you. you will have problems and issues with cops and other bikers up there. the yellow lines are there for a reason... weather its safe or not. learn to drive the course not make your own and cross. if your over driving our car. back off simple. stay within your limits and skills to stay safe. ive been told by many friends on other forums and have bikes that this kind of mtn runs are NOT cool or OK anywhere.

The best line to drive:
In a track would be the fastest obviously but then the fastest might not be the line you want to drive for the hole race. Fastest could over heat brakes, tires, engines & at some point drivers. The fastest line is always due to change base on car characteristics, tire wear, weather conditions and ground conditions. A lot of race car driver’s compromise when they are against an aggressive field of drivers and end up taking a safer line. So what is this safe line is the line that will allow you to keep around 20% of the grip of your tires, in other words you will be driving pushing the tires to their 80% of total traction. This lane will allow you to have a 20% grip to react to any defensive maneuver when needed, either using your brakes, throttle or steering.
Mountain Runs:
There is no line to drive, you shouldn't been driving over the speed limits period! But we do it. So that brings us to the question of what is the right line to drive in a mountain run? I hardly believe that said line should be chosen wisely, should be chose with the ego aside and the knowledge of what car are you driving and its potential.
You should not drive or try to tag along with cars that over power your car in all aspects (braking, cornering & wtq), you should be able to know what skill level you fall in. Last you should be know that you car is in its best running condition. You will be your sanctioning body; no one will tell you can’t run because you have old tires, or a cracked windshield etc... Is your life you decide how much you play with it?
So by then you should know you are not driving no F1 car nor a WRC car. So in my own personal opinion you should drive the safest line, you should be able to have enough grip left in your tires to slow down to avoid a biker, in coming traffic, a patch of oil etc... If you have to cross the double yellow to drive the safest line know that you can get your license suspended as I was told. But to me I rather have 40% of my grip to use it as I please that hug my left white line.
So to some people my safe line might look like and aggressive line but in reality is not, I drive the best safe line I can to every occasion even going to work, and has save me and my car numerous times from stupid drivers out there. Knowledge gives you the power to choose

Wowsers... I am so glad I did not go...
Did you and your sister have an intercom system with this "WRC" style communication system? You are trusting another set of eyes to "tell" you it is safe? What if her definition of safe is not the same as yours or she doesn't understand the amount of distance you are covering? You do realize they are going off of notes and there is not "supposed" to be any other traffic coming head on during a full blown rally?
Crossing the double yellow is why all the cops are there and why most of the accidents happen. That and people over driving their cars or trying to keep up with faster cars.
Drive safe, crossing the double yellow is stupid. It is ASKING for trouble at some point and time. Sure you may go 20 imes and nothing happens but that doesn't mean it never will...
This is the exact reason if it ends up more than 5 or 6 people I try not to go and only real go with people I know...
Geesh

Your such a tool some times man, nothing personal.
So, to your questions: NO we'did not the radio system...:goodjob: is very simple she will yell CAR for a single car, and she will say a number after if there is more than one like 2 she will scream CAR 2. If I dont hear right I will ajust mi driving line b/c I did not hear it.
This is how we do Rally in colombia, they cant close public roads so they place adds where the rally is going to go thru but you will find the contry guy that had no clue....

Like I said even drinving over the speed limit is "stupid" but I bet you you;ve done it too. I got a couple of people that seen you acting stupid too that I would call it enjoying your car but I'm using your vocabulary.

Cool...
I have since retired from doing that sort of thing on the street. I will go partake in MTN Run randomly for fun but that is few and far between. Last month was the first one in two years...
We have all been young and done stupid stuff. Call me names all you want but having a passenger yell "CAR" is not very safe.
We will agree to disagree. I will do my aggressive driving at Road Atlanta/Barber/CMP/etc you can do it on Blood Mountain.
No need to get angry over it. We have a large difference of opinion.

Rafa,
if you think crossing the double yellow is the "safest" line then you are sadly mistaken. you dont see bikes crossing the double yellow. you dont see me or anyone else that ive been up with cross. this isnt a debate about if its ok to cross... its not period. if you think the safest line is to cross to keep your 20% then slow down and stay on the right side of the road and you can still keep your 20%. yes you will be slower up the mtn but that is the safest line. you have issues if you think crossing is safe. ive never seen a bike cross.
i have personaly crossed once and competer accident and i thank god that no one was coming around the corner. i pushed hard coming down the mtn and cross over to the left lane of the up hill side. i was pushing way to hard 11/10ths after that scare i slow way the Fcuk down and was around 5/10ths. that is and will only be the only time i cross. i make my line "safe" by slowing down so i can take the turn on the right side of the road. that is what you call a mtn now GTFO

I will love to agree with you, and come out and say yes crossing the 2l yellow is bad, but my driving style changes base is how fast do I want to go, If I wanted to go as fast as you where driving I would've stay behind you, but I don't know anything about your driving skills, in the other hand I stay behind Ian b/c I knew he had some skills. He’s been an instructor in events I been invited to instruct but I couldn't go. I knew that I want to pull away form the pack why? Too many things unknown.
At the very end I was behind the blue wagon and the blue wagon behind you, so I was driving very easy and very relax, I was giving you two your own space to keep it safe, during that ride I had some much traction that I never had to even step in the 2l yellow. Fun though but not fun enough for me.
So it comes down to what I have been though since I started racing, around when I was 10 and I drove a shifter Kart... VS... how much I risk crossing the 2l yellow (in some cases). I go with physics and race experience and drive my line that gives me the chance of been faster and still has enough grip to react in case of anything.
DO NOT take it personal b/c is not. the way I see it is just a disagreement in driving styles.

Rafa, then i ask you for the safety of everyone else on the mtn and on the street, bikers, bicyclist, and even people walking. slow down enough to keep your line on the right side of the road and with that you can still keep your 20%. like i said your turning the mtn into a race track to get the fastest speed. that is not a mtn run. if your going to be slower than being on the right side of the road the so be it but its the law. but like i said if you get caught you SOL call a tow truck your self and give them your license. they do not play around up there about the double yellow.

Good advice. I would actually prefer no one behind me crossing the line as well as those cops are known to pull over packs and I don't want to be held accountable for a driving style I don't take part in...Rafa just do some g'dam.n track days already.

heard even though you got a 4 cylinder with those coilovers. you were straight up getting up on it. and keeping up. learning curve---- big time next time you will be faster i just know it.
