The Atlanta Falcons have reached an agreement in principle with the Oakland Raiders to trade cornerback DeAngelo Hall for the Raiders' second-round pick in the 2008 draft, pending the Raiders finalizing a contract with Hall, a source close to the Falcons told ESPN's Chris Mortensen.

While a Raiders source said Hall and the team are nearing an agreement on a contract, the source close to Hall said there is "still a lot of work to get it done."

The Raiders source said the deal is expected to pay Hall just below what Asante Samuel signed with the Eagles. Samuel signed a six-year deal worth a reported $57 million, with
$20 million guaranteed.

Hall, a former first-rounder taken with the eighth pick in the 2004 draft, would be paired with Nnamdi Asomugha, giving Oakland one of the top tandems in the game.

The move would also provide insurance if Asomugha were to leave as a free agent following next season. The Raiders placed the exclusive franchise tag on Asomugha, guaranteeing him at least $9.465 million in 2008. They still would like to sign him to a long-term deal.

If the deal goes through, the Raiders would have only one draft pick in the first three rounds. Oakland picks fourth in the opening round and traded its third-round pick last year to New England for a pick used to draft offensive lineman Mario Henderson.

Chris Mortensen covers the NFL for ESPN.

And as a Raiders fan since I was born, I can honestly say I don't want him either. The Raiders will not be successful until Al Davis dies. Ask any Raider fan and they will tell you that. This is just another one of his retard moves. I am not happy about this.

the only reason Hall ever gets a pick is when he gets burnt the QB under throws the ball. :2cents: :lmao:

I will guarentee that the Raiders have a better record than the Falcons this year. Raiders defense is solid and they have a decent offense. If they can get some decent QB play from Russell the will be an 8-8 team. It doesnt hurt that they play in a horrible conference either.

Yeah, I think they'll have a better record too. Though I don't know about an 8-8 season, they'll be better than the falcons.

If the Raiders go 8-8 I might have a heart attack. I am starting to think that old Jamarcus Russel is just hype. He doesn't impress me. If Fargus keeps playing like he has been though, he could in fact make Russel look good. I just hope they do better than last year.

If this deal goes through we'll get like the 34th pick, which is pretty close. But in all honesty, we're lucky to get that. D-Hall isn't nearly as good as he thinks he is and if we didn't trade him this year we'd lose him through free agency next year.

Al Davis is probably the only guy crazy enough to pay Hall anything close to what he's looking to get on his next contract.

Now if only the Falcons would either: move brooking to WLB, restructure his contract, or cut him then we'd be set!

As I and every Raider fan will tell you, Al Davis is a moron and the Raiders will not be successful until he steps down or dies.

I'm suprised there haven't been any assasination attempts by any of the loyal Raider's fans....I admire their restraint.

Me too. The "Black Hole" at the Oakland Coliseum is one of the most dangerous fan places in football. Before I die I will go to a game there.

what cut keith brooking you must be crazy. he is the best linebacker we got and he is only playing MLB because there is nobody else to actually fill the position(meaning get solid production).

1. Michael Boley is our best LB

2. I like Brooking as much as the next guy, but look at his salary. If we are truely rebuiling this team then we need to either move him to his correct position(by drafting a replacement at MLB) so he can earn his salary, restructure his contract, or cut him since he's not earning the amount of money we're paying him.

3. I may be crazy, but your bat-**** nuts if you think Brooking is better than Boley

I guess I am nuts because yes Boley is our best SLB but he def can't plug the middle and def not as athletic as brooking when dropping back in coverage.

Neither can Brooking and he's the one getting paid to do it!

and def not as athletic as brooking when dropping back in coverage.

M. Boley had 7 Pass Deflections (which is more than Brooking has ever had in a single season his entire career) and 2 Int.'s last year. Brooking had 2 Pass deflections and NO Int.'s last year. So...what was that you were saying again?

Yes, I know Brooking is playing out of position that's why I said we should also try moving him back to WLB or restructuring his contract to reflect his performance. If we can't do either of those THEN we should cut him.
