Licence plate questions

Ok so I have had this 98 Land Rover just sitting in my drive way for about a year. About 4 months ago my family decided to get it running again. Well it needed about two grand with of work. The car was burning to much fuel and was shooting white smoke out of the exhaust. After all this the check engine light was still on and reported a missfire. The guys at the shop said that the o2 sensors in the cat were probably still coverd in gas and after all that dried up it would shut off. Well it never did. I even paid them another three hundred for new plugs and wires plus I had to get new rotors and pads for the front brakes. I just don have the money right now to have it serviced again. Now I am trying to in a plate for the car but it wont pass the emmissions test with the check engine light on even though it runs fine. They are telling me that they think it could be sticky valves but even so it is gonna cost a butt load just to even look at them. I just need to get a plate, my brother has already got a ticket for driving it.:no: :police: Someone told me that if I bring paper work that shows that I have been trying to get it fixed, thry will issue me a plate and allow me the chance to fix it. Is this true? Has this happened to anyone else? What should I do?:thinking:

Why dont you just pull the bulb out of the cluster until after you get whatever you need....I mean if you know its running fine then theres no prob. Get is going and they worry about fixing it. Thats my opinion. That is of course unless someone thats doing whatever will be pulling the codes. Also try running some miracle fix stuff (for whatever you think it might be) until after the inspection.

Well the probem is when I go to get the emissons tested they plug their computer right into the ECU and it shows a missfire which might or might not be there. A missfire is an automatic fail. What miracle fix stuff are you taking about?

Pulling the bulb or wire for the MIL light won't work anyways, as part of the test is whether or not that MIL light turns on properly or not. If it doesn't, it's an automatic fail. Actually, getting that MIL lightbulb replaced on some cars is more expensive than a good deal of other emissions related repairs, but you have to have it.


This emissions nonsense as a requirement for getting a tag is for the birds. Do you have any family you could title the car under along with yourself who live outside the 13 metro counties? For example, Bartow county? That gets you out of the emissions test nonsense entirely.
