View Full Version : General Chat Taillight smoking: An ongoing debate

So my fiance and i have long been debating whether or not i should smoke my taillights. There aren't any aftermarket tails avaliable for my car so if i were to do something to them, this is the only option i know of. The problem is, my car is orange.

He says that smoking them black will look awful against my car (and i'm 50/50 on it. I've seen it look good on silver cars...)

I say that smoking them orange will be a) next to impossible (would definately have to be a professional job, but even then the color match would be hard) and b) probably still wouldn't look good. And going any other color just seems nonsensical.

I'm not saying i'm dying to change them, they can stay how they are for a while. there's more important things i want to do. But every time we walk up to the ass of my car we start talking about it. Any thoughts?

Guess what...a new member

Hey, I'm new, just bought an '07 Hyundai Accent SE (and it's orange!) and i'm looking at doing something to it... But i don't really know what can/should/shouldn't be done to it. Anyway, hello everyone I'm up in the Kennesaw area, very close to Town Center Mall.

I say smoke them as well, but dont go all the way black, a light smoke would look better with the color of your car.

Everyone: thanks for the input! I'm showing this to him and telling him i'm NOT crazy, and it CAN look good :)

JITB: I was thinking about that, but it'd be damn hard to match the color of my car to the color of the smoke...

not match the paint, just paint them al red, so there just all red, using transparent red model paint.

smoke the red areas at the top and bottom of the light. but go dark, really dark. and leave the centers clear. make sure to clear them and use a lot of wax to make them shine.

I say do what you feel would look good with your car. It's your car.....no one elses. What do you care what other people may think?

I say smoke them. A more transparent shade of black.

P.S. I think it's totally fine to ask other people's opinions. That what forums are for :) meanie head.

I wasn't saying not to ask people's opinions. What I was saying is yes, it is fine to ask questions and get peoples opinions about things but ultimately the decision is yours.

I'd never thought about orange-tinting them. Seems like it would be hell to match, obviously something I'd have to get professionally done. Does look good, though. Do the reverse lights then shine as orange? I don't really see how they wouldn't...
