Anyone ever have a wheel/machine shop widen a wheel for you? I'm comtemplating adding about 2" to a BBS wheel barrel (2-piece). I have a chance to pick up lightly damaged versions of the wheel which will give me all the material needed to widen it....theoretically cuttings 2 inches from one wheel and welding it onto the other. Just talked to Wheel Wizard and they don't do it.
...BUT they always have great customer service and referred me to http://www.stocktonwheel.com/wheel_widening.php :goodjob: Unfortunantly i think they only widen steel wheels :(

Found a company that will do it!

Why not just buy a wider barrel? Swap the face, and you are good to go? Or just go 3 piece, keep the faces, buy new barrels and lips and it would look better anyway dished out.

Bike shops do this all the time to make fat wheels in the back...maybe try one of those...

On a three piece wheel a 3" lip alone cost over $400 each...JUST THE LIP! and a 4" is nearly $500! That's $1,600 to $2,000 just in polished lips and that doesn't include the center OR the barrel...
:werd: BBS America in Braselton has TONS and TONS of super wide barrels :goodjob:The Toyota dealership at the Mall of Georgia has hundreds of cars....tons and tons of them actually...how does that help me?
I love BBS wheels but they can kiss my a$$. They closed all their wholesale accounts because they are going under.

Someone should make an automated TIG welder that rotates the wheel for a perfect dime stack all the way around.

I don't know how the Toyota dealership would help you out either  Someone must be stupid to recommend the Toyota dealership :dunno:
But I do see how BBS America would help you out, seeing as how they have tons and tons of barrels and lips, which is what you requested and need :goodjob:

Oh...I know how much they cost, its the price you pay to get nice wheels. If you do end up going that route I know a guy selling some lips here: http://www.passatworld.com/forums/showthread.php?t=254068&highlight=lips
Check around the FS forums on VWVortex, lots of MKII and MKIII guys over there rolling around on 3 pieces, always selling barrels, lips, faces, whatever. :goodjob:

The wider wheel would however be for the rear so a 15" technically would work but i'd never find a center to match the front wheels.

Assuming it's welded properly, the integrity could actually be better than the original cast, or forged, piece.

If I could get a 2-piece 17x8F & 17x10R 5x120 wheels from BBS for $1,000-1,200 then by all means I'd be at their doorstep at 8am...BUT it will never happen so one option is to take two 17x8 wheels and widen them to 17x10's.
However, if it's going to cost $500+ each to have them welded then I will just go to BBS and price out 2 custom barrels. The goal is a 275 rear tire on the car i'm building and I know what wheels I want...just gotta figure out how to get the tires on there.

I guess you didn't find the sarcasm in my post :goodjob:
But your a baller! I'm sure spending a few bucks on some barrels and lips won't put a dent in your pocket. You had Porsche brakes on your Integra!

Why not go WIIIIIIIIIIDE then just have some stretch to the tire. Multi-piece BBS and stretch always looks hot ;)
