Engine Flushing?

has any one ever heard of using Automatic Transmission (http://www.honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=2245410#) fluid for flushing out their engine (http://www.honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=2245410#). a friend of mine from my automotive class said something to me one day about doing it and i wasn't sure if any one else has ever tried it???
he said to add a half quart - to one quart of ATF to your engine oil (http://www.honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=2245410#) and run it for 5 to 10 minutes then do an oil change (http://www.honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=2245410#).

I use the right flush, from AMSoil. That's all.

yeah i have also but they tend to thin down the oil to much IMO.... thats why i was asking if any one has tried the ATF

i have heard of it. i used to run it in my plymouth when i first got it to help flush out some of the neglect of the previous owner. i know people who ran it for noisy lifters all the time.
ATF is high detergent, so in theory it would clean, and i havent seen any serious damage from using it. i have also heard that a quart of ATF per tank of diesel will help keep the internals on a diesel engine clean, but im not sure how true that is.

but one final thought, if you really want to clean out the motor, get some lubromoly or other brand of oil flush solvent so you know it works.

I guess it would help a little bit, but it probably wouldn't do as good a job as real engine flush solutions. people get paid to design that stuff and it probably works a little better. might as well use it.

Generally engine flushes are a bad idea, they tend to loosen oil & gunk buildups and put them into the oil pan, but since most pants are baffled they dont drain easily, and tend to get sucked into the oil pickup. It's not unheard of to clog your oil pickup tube after an engine "flush". Only way i would even consider doing one is if i were going to also remove the oil pan after the flush.

ATF does work a little but makes a very minimal difference since ATF and most engine oils both contain detergents. Its more of an old shade-tree mechanic myth.

why dont u just get the flush liquid form autozone for like 3 dollars it works great.

i simply buy the cheapest oil i can get my hands on at walmart or autozone or where ever, then i put that in after draining the old oil out. Then i drive the car normal for 5 mins then drive it hard for another 10 mins. Bring it back home.....drain it out while it's still hot and put regular oil i use/new filter in. I do this every 15k miles and when i go a good bit over my oil life. Everytime i do it...i can feel the difference...engine running smother.

cheapest oil = gas station oil? do u get the same oil weight? and use the old oil filter until u are doing the real oil change?

yea cheapest shiit i can get my hands on. And yes i use the same weight and old filter until i do the real oil change.

U can buy 5 qts of something techron (blue can) from walmart for about $5.XX.

Do this with full service...plugs, tranny flush, radiator flush, fuel system cleaner (forgot what they use to blow out the carbon outta the system), replace all filter and you'll love ur car.

I've heard of it back in the day peope use to do that by poorin a little of it in the carb to burn the crap off the top of the pistons but i would go with Sea foam.u can buy it at any auto part store and plus its pretty bad a** watching it blow all the smoke out the pipes!

sea foam it. and then you could use the trani sea foam and do the transmission flush.
