Finally, the press release we’ve been waiting for! SCEA has announced a plethora of new features, along with a complete car and track list that is raising quite a few eyebrows. Our resident GT news aces amar212 and alba have posted the full press release in our GT5 Prologue forum, with the highlights below.

Ferrari F40: Since Ferrari first joined up with Polyphony Digital to include their cars in the game, we haven’t really seen anything beyond newer models such as the F430 and 599 GTB. Now, though, all of that is beginning to change as the landmark Ferrari F40 (’92) - one of the most celebrated cars of all time - dominates the list. The lesser-known Ferrari 512BB (’76) is also a very pleasant addition that further diversifies the lineup. See the full list here…

Tuned Cars: In previous games, some cars were available for purchase in a special “tuned” form, which included external modifications such as spoilers and racing livery. These cars are once again making a comeback in Gran Turismo 5: Prologue, much like the tuned Nissan Skyline in this screenshot. Look through our complete gallery to see other cars such as the BMW 135i, Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X, and the Nissan 350Z in their own unique racing trim.

Drift Mode: Similar to what we saw in last year’s Gran Turismo HD demo, “Drift Mode” returns, allowing you to score points “based on drift angles, racing lines, and speeds within evaluation zones located at various turns on the course.”

Extensive Tuning: Without getting too specific, it appears that more in-depth car tuning facilities will be made available in the new game. According to the press release, players will be able to modify the vehicle’s power and weight in addition to the regular options.

High Speed Ring: Back in early February, we reported a mysterious “6th track” would be included in the North American version of the game. This speculation was correct, and we are happy to confirm this track is the infamous High Speed Ring, a fictional circuit which made its debut all the way back in Gran Turismo 1.

2-Player Split Screen: With most new racing games abandoning the classic 2-player split screen in favor of LAN or web-based multiplayer, it’s refreshing to see that Polyphony has decided to continue supporting those of us without two PlayStation 3’s around the house.

Check out the full car list and track list after the jump - click on “Read the rest of this entry…” below. If you’re ready to reserve your copy, jump over to Amazon where you can pre-order GT5 Prologue down for $39.99 with free shipping.

The price on the G25 is too high to justify buying one.

I disagree i think the clutch pedal & gated shifter make it a must have, and ive already got a logitech steering wheel. (driving force pro)

Dude what are you talking about.....Its a true manual. Just find somebody you know at FRY's electronics.....with employee discount, The g25 gets like $80.00 off.

There is no way the one you posted can compare with a G25. A true clutch is a level of gaming we should have had in GT4 days.

You gotta reconsider.

You gotta reconsider.Don't get me wrong the g25 is sick no doubt. But for $300, I could almost buy another ps3, or an xbox360. Sure its got a 6 speed, but its not like its going to feel the same as a true manual in a car lol.

The biggest thing about this release is online play.

Newegg price is $265.00

Ill find out what fry's price minus employee discount would be.

And your wrong about feeling the same as a true manual. of coarse not 100% but watch this demo too see what i'm on about.

Wow, um... That's all? not many cars there...

This is the first "Demo" pre release the U.S. has ever got. Compare the 71 cars to the 50 in GT4 prologue and the 700+ of GT5 before downloads.

We gotta all remember, all this is is a demo. A demo of the final product for 2009.

All you should be considering the setup for this.

1.1080p tv.....at least 42in
2. HD audio surround sound system.... at least 5.1 channel
3. PS3 + GT5
4. Logitech G25
5. N/Gig Router

It seems kind of short to me...

Maybe it's just because I haven't seen the lists for other games written out, but it just doesn't seem very long.

And the track list is definitely short.

but its a demo, You guys remember the `Forza demo for xbox....that was like 20 cars and 1 track.

The real deal GT5 for 09 will have 700+

I just realized something about GT5.

I wonder if you can change the outfit of the driver like you can in Tourist Trophy. We've already seen the gear in the GT5 Prologue screens.

Gran Turismo could open many new doors for itself by allowing these racing equipment companies advertisement in the game.

Just think, whenever the new stuff is released by Shoei, AGV, Dainese, Arai, or Simpson, you could fit it to your Driver.

Custom Helmets are the rage in all of motor sport and Valentino Rossi's Helmet made an appearance in TT, why not have Senna's, Schumacher's, Hamilton's, and Kimi's Helmet at your buying disposal.

It would be like you have a Tuning Shop for your car, and a racing apparel shop for the gear.

This is something i want for GT5 cause no way it will be on the GT5 Prologue.

*Discuss*

*Discuss* Hmm... and with that, they would be able to generate the funds needed to simulate damage to a car. (I like the idea anyway, some might not, but I sure tha hell do.) Because assuming the guys at SCEA actually would crash those things a few times, they would need the money for others.

Because assuming the guys at SCEA actually would crash those things a few times, they would need the money for others. They never said they were against putting crash damage into the game. The problem is modeling all the different variations of crash damage for all the different cars, would take forever and a half. It might have been easier in GT1 when it was ****ty graphics, but now with the graphics system being disgusting complex and good looking, it would take a ridiculous amount of man hours to make it happen.

we all shoudl know by now, that polyphony dont change much... to the game. i doubt the helmets will be customizeable. If they plan to integrate the online succesfully, than GT is gonan have to have some sort of custom format rather than wheels. But i dont think it will be in GT5, maybe 6 will start that. the japanese developers are starting to notice how much us Westeners lover our online play! and how much we fat lazy americans love to sit on our couch and play games
