Current Mustang....... Why has no one tried this?

So i got the thinking about the current Mustangs. It seems that Ford has tried to revive every version of those cars: Bullitt, Parnelli Jones, Shelby, and to add to those we have the modern tuners: Roush, Saleen, Steeda.

I was wondering why no one has tried to differentiate with what i think is one of the best look for Mustangs. Here's an example.

All Mustangs from that era had the 3 bar Tail lights

When Ford did the retro comeback they incorporated the 3 bar setup. But it seemed to wide.

Soo......Saleen came out with a setup that is more proportional to the original but.... overall the saleen was an ugly car.

My question.......Why has no one tried to replicate the Shelby GT500 rear? I have always thought this was my favorite look for a mustang.

Im not really sure if Im following your question. That rear of the last pic can easily be reproduced on an S197 with a few parts with the exception of the tailights. From the duckbill , to the side exhaust, to the quarter vents... However, are you talking the shape/tailights/etc?

The main thing was the taillights.... there is a member on this site that has had his car coverted to an "Eleanor" look. But i'm asking about the tails. I mean if your gonna make a Shelby GT500 with the current Stang, it needs that rear.


That looks like a horrible butchered up job. That would not qualify. I want to see a factory like finish. The even look like their squinting.

suprisingly the back window louvers ( im at school at pics dont show up due to internet blockers) but ran if ur talking about the rearwindow louvers ( back and side) its not bad at all. unless u get the cheap abs plastic REAR window louver. that creates a blind spot, but the MRT aluminum ones look like they arnt even there. all u see is v ery thin black lines. The side ones arent bad either. yeah it makes the blindspot a bit bigger but you can still see through them fine. i havnt had a problem.

Oh, and by the way, the 67-68 mustangs had far better looking taillights than the 64.5-66 (the ones the OP posted).

If you're talking about old skool as in '64-'69 I agree 100%. Although I do think that the latest body style is the best looking one since the '69 fastback.

But anyways... Saleens look good to some but not to me. I especially dislike the wheels. It looks like a poor bodykit was wrapped over the car.

I think the Shelby (yellow) is the best look for a stang. I just would want that 67 Shelby GT500 rear on mine.
