I have a lead on getting a bike that I really want, and I have no parking room, so this toy goes up for sale. Here is what it is:

1981 Yamaha XS 400 Special
15,412 miles
new battery, oil filter, spark plugs, etc.
new ignition switch, good tires, etc.

I have not cranked the bike, so I do not know how well it runs. Bike was sitting in the previous owners garage for a couple of years, and he did not know what he had to do to make it run. I have found that the clutch lever switch, the ignition switch, and the spark plug wires were not right and would not let it crank. I have replaced quite a few parts, like the ignition switch, new Yuasa battery, ignition coils/wires, etc. Sounds like it has good compression when you kick it over though. Carbs will need to be cleaned, but this is a good project bike.

It will still need some small parts, like mirrors, taillight, etc, and will need a custom seat pan made to mount the seat (former owner had started converting it to a bobber). Bike will require a little work to get it ready to ride, but many of the more expensive items are already purchased and on it - like tires, battery, new switch, etc.

The photos were taken before I added some of the new parts, but it is pretty much the same visually.

PM me with any questions.

Lowered Price - Now $500

Yeah, but I don't have any way to get it here. If it were closer, I could come up with something.

More pics. I have the headlight off because I was running down all of the wiring getting it back to stock. Previous owner had the wiring screwed up. Removed the grips because they were ripped up as well (needs new ones).

Did a compression check last night. Compression is fine. Looks like the issue is electrical. Starter solenoid is not clicking, but engine turns over fine if solenoid is bridged.

Willing to trade or partial trade for any of the following:
Older ATV (4 wheeler) - looking for smaller one (like a 110cc or so)
Dirt bike (older 70-150 or similar)
Set of 4 lug Welds (or similar) for the Mustang
52-60lb injectors for the Mustang

If you have any other performance based parts to trade for it, let me know. I am freeing up some space in the garage.
If the value of the item is different, the difference can usually be worked out.

Got another project. Need this one gone to free up the space. Will take $500 cash for the bike. I can deliver in the Atlanta area if you cover the cost of the gas.

I agree. That and I am horrible with electrical problems. And I have no idea where or how to go about making a custom seat pan.

If I spent the money and time to put it roadworthy (like I had originally planned), I wouldn't sell it - and definately not this cheap. I have no time to mess with it, and no place to really store it. That is why I am willing to part with it. There is no warranty, no negotiation, and no "fixing it and then sell it to you cheap". Either you have the cash and want a project (and can handle one), or you can't.

LOL @ the moron wanting a "warranty" :lmfao:

Have you tried shifting the tranny or anything to see if it goes in gear? And how would one figure out a "custom seat pan?" What's wrong with the one that is on it?

Tranny is good. We checked it. No issues with it shifting. Clutch cable could use lub or replacement.

Personally, I would get the 77 Corolla. That is a cool car to have.

I would trade it for a small dirt bike - something small, nothing bigger than a 100cc at absolute max. Prefer a 70 or 80, and not a Pep Boys type. Would need to be Japanese.

Possibly have a buyer tomorrow, and a pretty certain one on Friday, so I don't expect to still have it this weekend. If you are serious, you should PM me tonight.

yea i def want the corolla. its gonna be fun but its a small dirt bike and a good name either yamaha or kawasaki not that bs from the flea market... and i know its bigger than a fifty but way smaller then a 100 but the power band is nasty so i would be scared for little kids to ride it u need it for a pit bike i hope??
