Spray it. lol. last i checked those motors aren't to beastly in stock form. and use the kit later on down the road when u swap. or just drive it stock and save that money for a 350.

i'll bet the ls6 would bolt directly to a 4l60e since u like autos, but i say you just go with the 350.

why would you spend money on that motor if your just gonna swap it later? make it look nice for now until you get your swap, THEN make it fast

usually a reason. just do mods you can benefit from later. you should get torque thrusts. they'll look sick on your car.

Headers, X pipe, cam, and a little spray would liven that 305 up pretty good. And you have a third gen right? Id love to see an H/C/I LS1 in a third gen car.

the best and easy way to make power with a 305 is boost supercharge or turbo
i got a 91 RS im trying to get running i just dropped a brand new 305 in it put a 83 Z28 fiberglass hood on it and a 350 turbo tranny as soon as i get it running im goin to sell it

500 shot plus supercharge it. itll be fun for a second or two. also do the supercharger cuz you can always transfer that to the 350. actually do all that you can to that will swap to the 350.

Nice, I know where you can get a '79 400 sb with alternator, starter, etc...:ninja:
4in cowl is too much, mine is a 3in I believe and is plenty good. See below.

If you are planning on doing a swap, the only performance thing I would do is spray. Its by far the best bang for the buck, and when you do the swap, you can still use it.

Either way, good luck and keep me posted on what you're putting in there. V8's are my first love.

If it were me I woundn't put any more money into the 305. Save up for a 350 or 383 or something along those lines. I would also go with a carbureted setup rather than staying with TBI. The cheapest thing to do would be to find an old 350 truck engine, scrap everything but the block and build it how you want it. I would go with an eagle crank and rods, SRP pistons, a good comp cams hydraulic roller cam, 1.65:1 roller rockers, a good set of 2.02/1.60 heads, a edelbrock performer RPM intake mani (or just go with a tunnel ram!!), a good holley carb (750cfm or so), a set of hooker long tubes, and a 3" dual exhaust setup should make you somewhere between 350-500hp depending on the cam, pistons, and heads you go with. The small block chevy engine is the absolute cheapest engine in the world to build. Hell I wish I had another project with a sb chevy.

If you don't have to pass emissions and are not too worried about MPG's a properly prepped Economy 400SBC will produce 400#TQ and 400hp & 6500rpm pretty easy ( hydraulic lifter ) at less than $2,500 13's 1/4 mi, double the money to $5K and hit 500#TQ and 500hp & 7500rpm ( flat tapet ) / 12's 1/4 mi, Spend $7,500 and hit 550#TQ and 625hp & 8500rpm ( roller cam ) / 11's 1/4 mi. If you need the parts I have them and you can start with the Reverend's $500 core.
There is no replacement for displacement...
I am working on a 500" Small Block SB2.2 headed street cruiser. Shooting for 1000rwhp and if "Big J" comes thru for me, about 2500rwhp twin-boosted. Looking for an 84-87 MonteCarlo SS to drop it in, need help...

Parts are becoming harder to find every day for lt1/4 engines. LS1 parts are actually as cheap or cheaper. Not to mention there are tons of bolt-on kits out there, the ls1 is lighter, AND a better engine then the lt1. Really seems that the ls motor would be a better choice.

I ditched that pos 305 and got with the big dogs 355 with flat top forged pistons cranks been turned 10 and bored 30 over and a little more stuff that i cant mention just incase some of my enemies are watching :ninja: . Plus i dont need no one stealing my set up. (had it happen before) When you do the swap you should also get ready to swap out that trans like me im going with a t56 but for the moment i am running a 700r4 with a 3500 rpm stall.:D How much hp are you looking to make? Plus arent you on ls1tech?:goodjob:
