Partial shameless whoring of a friends ebay auction, partial discussion, who would buy it?

I always wonder about buying pre-modded cars. On one hand, its a nice way of getting into cheap speed, but OTOH, its also like getting sloppy seconds. Car has already been whored out. Also, there is the whole "cheating" aspect, having purchased a car that was already modded, and then the fact that you don't get that warm fuzzy feeling inside of rolling it yourself.

Anyway...the ad is somewhat slim on pictures, but having ridden in the car and seen it on the track, it is mosdef an 11 sec daily driver.

My main car is a very ugly car. Thats the whole point of a sleeper. Catch someone off guard and **** them up. You pretty up your car, you draw yourself unnecessary attention.

I actually shopped around for a Volvo/Saab or SHO Taurus at one time for a sleeper that wouldn't be looked at twice, just didn't suit me. I like being pretty and slow, kind of like that blonde headed broad in high school. Nice vids though.

That would drive me nuts. Can't do it. Gotta be fast or at least quick.

I like cars as close to stock as possible upon purchase but price plays a large role in whether it's cost-effective to buy a modded car.

Looks like that Volvo won't go for much.

i say go for it!

that engine bay looks a hot mess. i thought mine looked the most mumbled, jumbled evar.

and yes, buying a car already modded does not give u the warm-fuzzy feeling inside. you take care of and put my heart in to something that you've already built up, vs what someone else already did. but, to each their own. i know one thing, that would be a true sleeper.

You were expecting a bunch of ricers to buy into a sleeper of this nature? Half of IA is stuck on the main 5 cars:
Civic
240SX
WRX
EVO
anything 2JZ powered

If it isn't anything else, there's ovious comments as posted. A sleeper can get your way out of a ticket. A rice rocket with a pretty paint job and pretty gauges and blingage and stuff will get you unwanted attention, whether it's :police: love or someone wanting your vehicle more than you. But like I said, this is IA and half of the people on here are ricers. Continue your progress.

BTW, I got the router working :goodjob:

I like it. I love Volvo's and Saabs. No one ever expects them to be fast but they can kick some major ass with the right mods.

i saw this car run at Tuner Fest out in Montgomery last year.

I could of sworn it had a 2JZ but all it was was that.....

nah, he is planning to put a 2jz in a 2 door model, but that was the car you saw in its current state. THat same setup was in a wagon before with 350k+ miles. I rode in it when it was in wagon form. Its slightly quicker as a sedan due to less weight, but the wagon had a nicer hole shot.

I'd buy it if i had the money. Im all about butt ugly sleepers that blows the doors off other people...

And i feel you about buying a pre-modded vehicle, kinda takes away the whole reason of having a project car. I see it as you go through trial and error to figure what works or not, what makes your car quicker or not. Thats the fun part about it to me.

I would consider a 90+ 744, but the interior on that 244 is awful.

i'd buy a lightly modded car... i did. but i wouldnt buy something that has little left to personalize, sleeper or not. its like having sex with a passed out drunk chick, you got the glory with none of the work.

I love sleepers, but this is just hideous. I mean I like to think a sleeper is when the car that got beat looks at the sleeper saying, "WOW, damn, that shiit didnt looks fast", and not, "hahahahaha, I cant believe that thing just beat us". I mean I want my car to look like its slow and not a damn SCHOOL BUS! Just my .02

i've bought modd'ed cars before. I have no problem doing so if it has the parts i'd be putting on anyway and the work/parts are well documented. My green Miata came with the supercharger, suspension upgrades, wheels, a roll bar and the GV bumper. I decided that those were all parts i wanted anyway so i bought it. It didn't take long for me to add my own personal touches to it and make it a completely different car. Not to mention aftermarket parts (if of good quality) can be bartered to get other parts you want.
