View Full Version : What's needed for H22 in 94 civic coupe?

My 94 civic decided that it wanted to slip a rod bearing. So it's been parked and getting ready for a swap. What all is needed to put an OBD1 H22 into it. Obviously the computer, wiring harness, transmission, engine, cv axles, and motor mounts... But what else will I need to do this swap completely? What problems will I likely run into that I can look out for? Thanks ahead of time for any info or input.

Alot of work.

Your better off with a GSR

What would be the difference in power potential and reliability if any? and difference in cost of the swap for everything I'll need be much?

H22 will cost more, its nota direct bolt in swap.

H22 has a cable shifting trans, not a shift linkage
Wiring differences between D and H series
I dont do H into Civic swaps, too much money, too hacked up, not enough positives to justify the price.

GSR or ITR will be a much more balanced swap in that chassis, and save you money

Alright, I will look into a GSR swap. I appreciate the input.

Just go with a B-series.

I'm just going to do a little more research on what will be the best swap. That way I know what I'm getting into. What will have the best potential, reliability, and etc.. It's not something I want to just throw in there, but do it right the first time and build the motor a little before I drop it in.

i agree with btlground...besides...you can't do too much unless you REALLY start investing money in an Hseries if you ever plan to build or boost it. like he said..just do a gsr swap..easier for you..and believe me...you will not regret it.

also...preference on the trans..if you geta b16 trans with LSD..u will be a beast..if possible..find the 4th and 5th gear out of a gsr trans and replace it with the b16 4th and 5th gear..u should retain your MPG

thats true story from every one....but really if you get everything that is needed for the h22 swap in to a 92-95 civic, its not so hard, resister box, shifter cables, gear box, cut and thrill to modify the gear box in......h22 mounts into 92-95 civic *Hasport,*

I will be looking into putting an LSD tranny into it. I might look into changing 4th and 5th gear but not really worried bout MPG, as long as it's not too drastically low. Guess I'll have to see. I plan on building the motor decently before I drop it and boosting it later...

-just a little side note to everyone- the H22 does not weigh too much more than a B18. It is the fact that the engine is taller and thusly, has to be tilted back in the bay. That causes the center of gravity on the engine to be put more forward than any B series which causes the weight split to be more to the front.

and has issues with the pitch of the axles too..

If I get the gsr swap I'm looking at dropping about 5k (not including swap, will be doing myself) into motor and tranny and mildly building it. What numbers could I realistically expect and what would be the best way to go with building it?

If you get an h22, you can make minor power, decent torque... overall gsr would be better simply because they are better for boost imo... you can build em w/o sleeving them etc etc. If you want an h22 call us 678-567-9384 I have put them in almost anything.....
