Hahaha..I found an old pic of my instrument cluster. For those of you wondering how fast an M3 can go, here is your answer..

The car is pretty stock for the moment minus bolt-ons...and just for information purposes, the car redlines at 8,100 RPM so I had a couple thousand RPM's left.

Wow.. when and where?

A few months ago...and it was in middle of nowhere south georgia...those long open stretches in farmland georgia where the population is so little that there isn't even a McDonalds anywhere near.

it is not nearly as explosive as my Supra Turbo was to 180 mph..but...

Not really...getting to 155 was easy ......and it only took a few seconds after 155 really...it helped that I had a slight tailwind though. The M3 really IS an autobahn cruiser. This should also show why even supercharged M3's only run low to mid 12s even with 500 whp....the gearing is really designed for top speed.

Going that fast can cause danger to the manifold and cause the welds on your intake to blow. Be careful.

yea..M3's will hit over 180 mph stock once you remove the top speed limiter!

Why did you regret it? I have done almost that on the street and 156 on a track. It is fun as hell if you do it in the right place.

Because is dangerous and stupid IMO. But like you said I wouldn't mind in the right place but there are hardly "right" places here in GA.

2004 M3 ...all M3's are manual, but mine is the SMG- Sequential Manual Gearboxlolol, no true manual transmission has a button for fully automatic mode. I wouldn't count a clutchless electrohydraulically controlled clutch a manual, it's a automatic that operates like a manual...take a pic of your clutch pedal for me ;) If you can't stall on launch and mis-shift its still an autotragic, just slightly more entertaining. :D

I was just trying to figure out what differential the car has anyways, the one i'm building should top out at 160.....in 4th :boobies:

I DO in fact have a pressure plate, clutch disc, and throw-out bearing...in fact, the SMG transmission is the exact same ZF gearbox as the traditional six speed. I have no torque converter. The SMG is a true manual gearbox with simply a hydraulic arm engaging the clutch when you shift. In fact, my clutch went out a month ago and I ended up with this badass piece of work:

Clutchmasters twin-plate unit!

http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u117/thedream21479/fx600.jpg

And you better tell Formula 1, CART, WRC, and Indy that SMG gearboxes are not real manual transmissions..Oh , might want to tell Ferrari, Lamborghini, VW/Audi, Bugatti, Maserati, and Alfa-Romeo that they screwed up by using SMG and Twin-clutch gearboxes without a clutch pedal.

If a computer can engage and disengage a clutch faster, more precisely, and match revs perfectly...who am I to argue with it.

Thanks for the compliment :)

To answer your question, The M3 compares very well stock to stock to all three. In fact it's probably the best handling overall out of the three. My NSX's were (94 3.0L version) and a 97 (3.2L version) Targa. The 94 is not fast by today's standards, mid 5's zero to 60 and a low 14 1/4 mile. The 97 was about a second faster in both aspects. As far as handling goes, the NSX had awesome limits, but if you were not careful, the car would not gracefully slide on you like a typical RWD car. Being mid-engine, it would spin out entirely on its center axis like a top. It took me a long time to get used to that..especially in slick weather. The interior of the M3 blows it away since the NSX looks like an 80s Prelude for the most part. I had them when I was living in Nebraska and a lot people would mistake them for a Ferrari all the time.

The Supra's were different animals entirely---much much more explosive. I've had 94, a 95, and a 97 (i'm not going to count a 95 non turbo auto I bought for a girlfriend at the time). The supra's stock are great handling cars, but after modding them, they just had too much power. My 94 was an automatic version with basic bolt-on and stock twins that put about 450 to the wheels. I bought the 97 six-speed, and went crazy with it...single turbo upgrade, EMS...and put down about 700 whp. Now keep in mind, these are cars I had in the late 90s and early 2000s so it was a LOT of power back then. The 97 was running mid 10s on street tires at traps around 150 mph (no traction!)

The 95 I bought last fall and was putting down 585 whp and 605 lb/ft of torque. The only serious thing I got to race was a completely modded C5 Z06 from the varsity one night..a black one with black wheels. I gave him a car length head start from an 80 roll on 75 north. When I hit 150 mph I couldn't see him in my rear view anymore. I wrecked that car last November and bought the M3 to replace it.

The M3 will be boosted in about a month or so..and it will be a great match for the Supra's on highway pulls. 1/4 mile times aren't as great since the M3's a) don't put down nearly the same torque and b) you can see they are geared for top end. My last Supra was easily in the low 11s...but this will only be around a low 12 through the quarter...but stupid fast from 100mph on up. It should put down around 480-500 whp on stock internals.

I let a couple of friends drive the last Supra I had, and they can vouch for how crazy it was ..even as a work in progress :)
