I have a 93 Da with a b20, but kinda feeling like I want more power. I heard b20 with a b16 VTEC ;) head, or boost it? Which one is more reliable. I want about 200 hp only for a daily driver.

omg..where to start...first of all to get 200whp out of a b20 vtec its not gonna be as easy as bolting on a b16 head...vtec is spelled without the h by the way....for 200whp you can boost it and be totally reliable and faster than some frankinstien motor. ppl have made great numbers with ls/vtecs and b20/vtecs but they have made even better numbers with boosted ls and b20's. if you can afford to dump alot of money into the motor you can make 200whp with a b20 vtec but you gotta pay. do yourself a favor and just get a good turbo kit and get tuned.

with all the info all over the net about ls/vtec it still amazes me that ppl cant figure out the better route.

is it true that b20 have like thinner walls or sumin so they're not as good to boost? i read it somewhere.

lol my bad... i knew that it was a typo but thats not the point, I wasn't asking for someone to check my spelling and grammar

yes the walls are thinner as the stock bore is 3mm bigger than a normal b series, but that wouldnt matter if he's smart and gets good tuning afterwards ;) . . . or if he tries to hit 182049890128048192849124 whp

if you bore out a 81mm stock b18 sleeve to 84mm it would not last. the sleeves are not any thinner than reliability allows. the sleeves on a b20 are just as thick as the sleeves on a b18...its not a b18 block bored out contrary to mis-informed ppls beliefs. they are 2 totally different blocks

i never said that it was an overbored b series, i said it was 3mm bigger than the regular b series. thats why i said it wouldnt matter :D

if you can't spell vtec you can't build a 200hp honda...best way I know is to sleeve the block or better get a darton block then boost it, you can "slap" on a vtec head, but the block was never built or intended for vtec, so reliability goes out the window there and you want it to be daily driveable so id go with 10psi instead of VTECHHHCH!

for the power you're looking for stock b20 is fine to boost. i've tuned a few b20's well over that. i usually recommend 230-250whp for great reliablility, but have a few 275+ stock internals out there that have been fine for quite a while.

Just boost it yo. Just remember that the b20b is notorious for cracking sleeves under boost. Keep it UNDER 250whp. If you got the funds then send the block to golden eagle to get it resleeved and then get the block built CP pistons and eagle rods. And then boost the hell out of it.

hp doesnt crack sleeves...pressure and detonation does..quit focusing on hp numbers. gennerall these motors end up kicking it around the 250 mark but its not the hp that kills it. there are other factors that greatly reduce the life of the motor..the hp is just a by product of those factors

i would suggest vtec...
boost on a b20 is not so good bec of the 84mm bore...
it is thinner and weaker than other b series blocks with a 81mm bore...
but with a good tune you would be fine either way...

if you go boost you will see a bigger hp gain...
but vtec would prob be a lil more reliable...
its on you tho man...

personally i dont suggest boost on a b20
