Toshiba annouces that all production on HD DVD players will cease effective immediately.


According to Japanese broadcasting network NHK, Toshiba will lose "hundreds of millions of dollars" as the format war finally draws to a close. Regardless, investors are pleased that Toshiba has made the decision to cut its losses. This comes after a last-ditch price cut was unable to prevent Wal-mart from throwing their lot in with Blu-ray, although some sources suggest that Wal-mart was already aware of Toshiba's plans to withdraw from fight.

i thought thats how you were supposed to pick them in the first place. lol. 8 years ago when the ps2 came out was one thing but when the 360 ps3 launched that kinda brought the rules back to where they should be. Gameplay>what format movie you can watch

and it'll be a HUGE release ... i can see people getting a ps3 JUST for that game, people who didn't have a hi-def player of any sort prior to.

I'm just glad it looks like there is finally going to be a victor. I could give a **** which one wins (it certainly isn't going to make me want a PS3, as I am quite content with my 360), I just want to be able to know for certain which kind of player to buy whenever I finally get around to it.
