I know , wrong section but I attempted to get some help in the Entertainment forum but not enough exposure. So mods please let this one stay for a bit..

Anyways, Im getting rid of my XBOX360/COD4/TigerWoods08/Assassins Creed/ETC and trading it in.

Im going to pick a up a 40GB PS3. My primary motivation is the blu-ray player and Gran Turismo 5. However, is GT5 available as a download? What about Gran Turismo HD? Can I buy that at GameStop? Also, how is the online play on PS3 compared to Live? I hated paying for the live membership.

Is the 80GB worth it? Can I play all the old PS2 games on it?

my biggest motivation to getting the 360 was the standalone HD-DVD setup. However, thats going down the drain, so I want a blu-ray player.

Forza 2 sucks in my opinion. Always been a GT fan.

im pretty sure i replied to to other thread, but im not sure if GT5 is one of the downloadable games, i never really look into the PS store. online with the PS3 is better pretty much in everyway. on top of that its free. xboxlive isnt bad but paying for defeats the whole point of even offering online. plus ps3 is getting this ps3 home thing which is supposed to be free and looks pretty cool. pretty much turns everyone who is on the playstation networks and puts them into a big virtual city and you have houses and can do whatever you want with them. upload real videos and have them play on tv's inside the house, upload pics of whatever and hang them in your house. can talk with your mics/ or text, has alot of stuff just look up playstation home on youtube or something.

Yeah , agreed, Id only really save 50 bucks. But I would consider it if it carried the same warranty.

Man, I work at the Gamestop at Edgewood. Honestly I wouldn't even recommend a PS3, some new games require you to download them to your HD or some ****, I know DMC4 takes 5gigs of HD space. They discontinued the 60gig(80g possibly too) and I don't think the PS2 games are compatible with the 80. I've never cared to look into, but I believe that's what I've picked up. But honestly get the PS3 and keep the 360, I know the trade in on a 360 it only like maybe $125, so you won't be getting much for whatever you've put into your system. Either way you can PM me and I can get you some info, of I'm working tomorrow at four if you wanna stop in and ask dome questions. My roommate might be willing to buy your 360 depending on what you'd take though.

Don't get that one, it doesn't have Wifi capabilities, memory stick reader, or HDMI; HDMI is important if he plans on using it to watch Blu Ray movies on.

George, read this guide from GameFAQs.com that explains everything about the hardware: http://db.gamefaqs.com/console/ps3/file/playstation_3_hardware.txt

To all the people saying 360>PS3:
HD-DVD IS DEAD. Sure the 360 is a good gaming system, but it's use as a HD-DVD player is as good as worthless now.

I have never understood why people take in movie capabilities into their account of buying gaming systems. you buy it to play not to watch

Well good thing I play video games on mine. If you just want Blu-Ray wait about six-nine months until they come down. You're not missing out on much between now and then.

Have you ever considered the fact that maybe some people want both a game system AND a Blu-Ray player? If you buy the system with the movie capabilities, it keeps you from needing to buy a separate piece of equipment just to view movies.

Maybe because the PS3 is not marketed as a 'gaming system" but an entertainment console? ;)
