View Full Version : General Chat Puddle Lights
So I'm brand new to this apparent trend. I was just wondering what the general population of IA thinks about them. And if you do like them, please explain what makes them any different than the concept of neon lights.
Seriously, this is just curiousity on my part. I'm keeping an open mind, and I'm not looking for an argument.
(thanks for the pic EJ25RUN :))

Are the lights on the door handles of BMWs considered puddle light? I mean, those are somewhat functional (if it's dark you can see the handles), but on the ground? Do any of the luxury cars come like that?

Pretty much, most have them under the side view mirrors. But they do serve the same "purpose". Puddle lights are called that so when you get in and out of your car in the dark you don't step in a puddle. If you have them wired to come on when you open the doors or unlock the car with the remote they are cool. If you drive down the road with them on your are a big fat RICER......and a retard. No mater if its a $5,000 car or a $500,000 car.

deke is right high end european cars have puddle lights and suv's too...they have them on the side view mirrors and also door handles..some benzez have em under the body like the picture shown above...and just like the name thats wat its for so you can see puddles and ****..japanese automakers never really adapted to em. but since vip styling is all about taking certain aspects of luxury...some put those lights on their cars. its not necessary for vip/vip style but some want it...so its more personal pref. i like em. thats my take on it. LOL i already know what 87 turbo II thinks and i know he loves em :D

i think it looks like he strategically duct-taped his neons under his car.

mated with that that car, they actually look good, and apparently serve a function, like most have stated, versus flying down the highway, with them on. they go well with the lines of the car.

i think they look classier than ultratyte techni-color neons, and they actually have a purpose too

Puddle lights are not really a trend. They have been put on cars in Europe and Japan for years.....as a factory option. Granted the ones on that Lexus are a bit more on the show side.
I used to work at Subaru... Puddle lights are standard on the Limited Pack. For the Subaru Tribeca.

Now for the rest of you... lets use a little common sense.....
I understand most of you on here are all about function. ~ I.e. big wing is ok on a car cause corner time is cut.
Now sorry guys, Puddle Lights don't cut seconds of your lap.....but
Why are they called puddle lights?
Why would they be equipped as a factory option on luxury cars?
Im sorry something that keeps you from getting your shoes and pants wet is not gonna cut corner time, but lets no forget........Function....It has it.
P.s. read post #42 in the thread i started on this.

i dont like that look. But i miss my 7 color LED's. I love neons and have 2 cathodes in my trunk and 2 under my dash. As long as they are hidden, im fine with 'em.
i like them.....but only on some cars

Well then why are they on in pictures with the doors closed? I'd see their purpose if they illuminated when the doors open.

It's an acquired taste. I don't have the taste for them myself, but I guess in SOME cars it looks different. I voted no for myself since I wouldn't put them on my car. :goodjob:

I can see the function in them, but I don't see how having them on or the fact that you have them makes your car any cleaner or better looking. It helps you not step in a puddle. That's it.
Going with that opinion, I think it is dumb and ricey to take a picture with the puddle lights on.

They look great on the VIP style cars, but the light itself shouldnt be really bright and spot on, it should be really mellow and give a faded look. It just gives it that extra touch.
