There is a 1996 Cavalier that ive been working on, and it will soon need a tune. Now, obviously, HPTuners will be used. But, the problem is, that HPTuners doesnt support the 1996 Cavis/Sunfires; the oldest it does is the 97. If i should swap the 1996 ECU to a 1997 ECU, will this be worth trying so i can run my HPT software??
Im posting on here, because there isnt that much other info out there on swapping ECUs/wiring harnesses on cavis.

simple solution would be jsut to find the diffs in the 2 years, and hopefully u wont have to do any harness rigging. BUt than again, u could just go get a 97 ecu and harness, and be done with it.

Why use HP Tuners? Theres like 3 other programs you can use. Try EFI live and give nelson tuning a call. They are mail order guys but they might be able to pull it off.
