Corvettes & ‘Cue to be Featured

At Northlake Elks Charity Event

“Car-be-Cue” Scheduled Saturday, February 16

TUCKER, GA (February 16, 2008) --- A “car-b-que”featuring more than 40 vintage Corvettes and nearly 2,000 pounds of chicken and pork bar-b-que will be on tap Saturday, February 16, when the Northlake Elks Lodge No. 78 conducts its annual charity event from noon to 7 p.m. The lodge is located at 1775 Montreal Road in Tucker.

This year’s event will feature a display of some 40 Corvettes ranging from 1954 to the present as well as live entertainment and a flea market. A bake sale will offer desserts. The Elks’ charity bar-b-cue has been an Atlanta area tradition since 1935.

Proceeds from the event are used to fund a variety of DeKalb County charitable programs sponsored by the local lodge ranging from veterans programs to youth alcohol and drug awareness.

“We have been told that we serve the best bar-be-que a person has ever tasted,” said Rick Kaigler, chairman of the event. “In addition to some great bar-be-cue and classic Corvettes, those joining us will have the satisfaction of knowing that the money they spend will go to teen drug and alcohol programs and veterans events. Aidmore House, a DeKalb facility for troubled teenage girls also benefits as do area elementary schools who receive dictionaries with the money we raise.”

Tickets for the “car-b-que” can be purchased at the time of the event for $7.50 and the meal can be ordered to take out or eaten at the lodge. Sides of cole slaw, beans and bread are included. Discounted prices are available to dealerships and other companies that order large quantities to be delivered. Deliveries can be ordered by calling 770/908-0835.

Since they were founded in 1868, Elks Lodges in the US have given away more than $3.5 billion to charitable, educational and veterans programs and awards some $3.3 million in college scholarships annually. The Tucker lodge #78, founded in 1892, works closely with the local VA Hospital, North DeKalb and Tucker area schools.
