This is a video montage from Best Motoring 1997 and has some of the greatest race cars from Japan. Alot of these gave developments to the tuning industry that have allowed street cars to be far faster on the track. My favorite car from these vids is the Mooncraft Accord which uses an h22 but has had the head swapped so the headers face back and the intake faces forward (similar to K series)....Only thing is this NA monster makes 300 hp

I cant believe if it wasn't for stuff like Gran Turismo and Best Motoring we would really not have a chance to learn about cars like this.

Starting from 1994, the Japanese Touring Car Championship (JTCC) was competed under FIA (Federation Internationale de l'Automobile) Class-II race regulations. This is an international classification standardized by the FIA, for normally aspirated 2 liter 4 door sedan automobiles.

The strict limitations imposed on engine and chassis modifications allow the spectators to enjoy watching competition of near-to-stock racing cars. In vying for the title, Honda entered their Accord for the 1996 season. Honda's latest racing technologies were fully packed in this low and sleek racer. The front transversely mounted, 4-cylinder 2 liter powerplant was tuned to yield 300 plus horsepower. The sequential 6-speed transmission was mated to this powerful engine. The standard double wishbone suspension system was totally re-fabricated using hi-tech materials. It used a refined geometry alignment setup suited for the wider and larger diameter wheels. The front and rear 18 inch wheels were fitted with wide racing slicks. The chassis ride-height was lowered to a minimum of ground clearance, giving the car an aggressive look.

The Accords were entered from three different racing teams for the 1996 season and among them, the Moon Craft Motor Sports Project was sponsored by JACCS. Driven by skilled driver N. Hattori, the JACCS Accord pleased the racing fans with its outstanding performance through the season.

Yeah we would, road racing here in the US had the Porsche and 355 obviously, and models of course ;) I actually only found out about Best Motoring a little over a year or two ago lol.

but still back in Gran Turismo 2 days...1999......i saw the JACCS civic for the very first time (it was a paint job you bought for like 85,000 credits :thinking: )
but im still talking bout the japan side of stuff.

Tamiya has also sparked interest where i wanted to do more homework on the cars.

the 911 is a great car but really...... that accord is unreal.

It goes to show what supertouring class II was all about.

You look stock on the outside but have F1 tech underneath. The demise of these cars was because it just got too expensive. I read a 94 Mondeo under the original specs cost $85,000 to build but by '98 it had jumped to $250,000+.
