i have always wanted to get a motorcycle and never knew where to start. i had friends tell me if i take a class than i probably would not need a starter bike. and some said i should get a starter bike. so i have no idea. what do you guys recommend. what is a good, cheap starter bike?

I've always wanted a motorcycle especially a ducati(def.not a starter bike). I'm honestly afraid of the damn things, but I know that GSXR 600's aren't extremely powerful, good weight distribution and even though they are a dime a dozen I know alot of guys that get em for there first bike. Also CBR F4i's (600cc) is good...its kinda like the cruiser of the sport bike world..but once again very nice in weight and handling..goodluck man

LoL I got a 06 CBR 600RR as my first bike was fun as hell at first but for top speed 600's lack 0-120 feels like a beast and handles very very well. I know my CBr does not have the sliding clutch which at first scares the sh1t out of you but other new bikes comes with it. A 600 is a good bike but still powerful depends how responsible you are on what bike you should get. I went from a dirt bike to my 600 and they are nothing alike two completely different bikes. I would get an old used Ninja 250 or 500 and learn on those. Every bike is different and takes time to get used to. Good luck choose wisely. ***PS DO NOT GET A NEW BIKE LIKE I DID YES IT LOOKS NICE BUT WHEN YOU FALL IT"S NOT CHEAP TO REPLACE PARTS AND YES 99.9% PEOPLE DO FALL SOMETIME SOME HOW JUST DEPENDS ON WHEN YOU FALL.***
Reasons how you can fall
You Being a dumb@ss=Fall
Other Cars/Bike being dumb@ass=Fall
Bad Condtions=Fall
Not Maintaining your bike=Fall
Falling=Get up and walking away (still usually hurts like hell gear or not) or death.

True dat on falling... but for me i've rode dirt bikes since i was little and my first time on a bike was my friends brand new gsxr 750 and for me it was just like ridin a dirt bike but FASTER lol... Now the R1 i was talking bout is a totally diff. type of speed... FAST BIKE... if ur already scared of speed... dont go with it plus here in ATL there are some DUMBA.SS DRIVERS... so be prepared or anything ....

get a beater bike that looks like crap broken fairings and bad paint bc even when you take the class your still gonna accidentally drop the bike and if it looks like s hit then you wont feel back about dropping it look in cycle trader or craigs list and find you a bike less then 2500 dollars thats no more then a 600 bc you wont ever need the power of a 1000 in atlanta unless you want to be lame and stunt so go cheap and get comfortable riding and then after a while save your money up and then you can get something new
