Slow_Hatch build thread: I'll update as progress continues
Well in light on an upcoming trackday I signed up for, I decided it was time for some changes/maintenance and upgrades to the Slow EF. Not so much to the motor(although that is next on the list) but more to the handling department. So I searched for a good bit then came up with a list of sh!t that needed to be addressed on the car. The main things were the suspension, bushings, and the tranny w/ a few other little things too. I've pretty much got everything I need, but some has still yet to arrive. Now for some build....

Here is my work area, lol. The car is pretty torn apart now. I've already got the tranny out and gone, whole front suspension is out, and some of the rear as well
http://i240.photobucket.com/albums/ff114/mugen_racer91/hondameet/EF%20build/Ef-build-018.jpg
Where's the tranny
http://i240.photobucket.com/albums/ff114/mugen_racer91/hondameet/EF%20build/Ef-build-021.jpg
Suspension, or lack there of..
http://i240.photobucket.com/albums/ff114/mugen_racer91/hondameet/EF%20build/Ef-build-024.jpg
My work counter, enhabited by extra LS head, etc, and a majority of other parts, lol :D
http://i240.photobucket.com/albums/ff114/mugen_racer91/hondameet/EF%20build/Ef-build-019.jpg
And the spare LS block(coming soon.....)
http://i240.photobucket.com/albums/ff114/mugen_racer91/hondameet/EF%20build/Ef-build-025.jpg
The front suspension pieces cleaned of ready to be striped of their old tired bushings, and replaced with new healthy ones :D
http://i240.photobucket.com/albums/ff114/mugen_racer91/hondameet/EF%20build/Ef-build-020.jpg
And here is something I purchased to help with that
http://i240.photobucket.com/albums/ff114/mugen_racer91/hondameet/EF%20build/Ef-build-023.jpg
Which turned out to be joke. You get what you pay for. I'll be returning it, and getting the oxy torches from work tomorrow

So....I've started doing some of the bushings in the LCA which I thought would be halfway easy, boy was I wrong. These things are a major PITA. I bought the press, put it together in like 10min, then spent the next 1 & 1/2 only to get one of the smaller ones out. So needless to say ill be torching the rest.

Here are some more of things to come :goodjob:
Got my hubs/spindles redone. New wheel bearings, studs, and lower ball joints
http://i240.photobucket.com/albums/ff114/mugen_racer91/hondameet/EF%20build/Ef-build-007.jpg
Ported w/ larger wastegate flapper 14b

Civic master set
http://i240.photobucket.com/albums/ff114/mugen_racer91/hondameet/EF%20build/Ef-build-002.jpg
Rear Trailing arm bushings
http://i240.photobucket.com/albums/ff114/mugen_racer91/hondameet/EF%20build/Ef-build-003.jpg
And my method of removing them (BTW I will rent this tool out if you need it)
http://i240.photobucket.com/albums/ff114/mugen_racer91/hondameet/EF%20build/Ef-build-005.jpg
http://i240.photobucket.com/albums/ff114/mugen_racer91/hondameet/EF%20build/Ef-build-006.jpg
and finally some real shocks(compared to my old stockers) Ground Controls should be here in the next day or two

Alight, will do. Heck, once I get it all put back together you're more than welcome to ride in it. I ordered 500lb fronts & 600lbs rear, so I doubt it will be very comfortable though :D

The suspension bits should make that car firm but not really uncomfortable. As long as the springs and dampers are fairly well matched, should be (kinda) smooth sailing.

Looks like it'll be a bit more fun to drive when you're done.

Are you using the rear shock bolts? I need ef ones, as mine were too short, and I had to buy some at lowes lol, and they are too long. Also how did your old coils ride in your ef ( I never rode in it), the rears are pimp in my car, but the fronts are beginning to be murder lol.

Al;so be careful heard on my forum, anything over 450 might require revalving with the konis, and low ride height might require them to be shortened too.

But very nice wheel/tire choice along with suspesion. After you get the turbo setup running I want to talk to you about what radiator (+/- stock or aftermarket x-member) you're using because of the whole clearance deal.

Looks like everything is coming together good. LMK if you need some help with the car. If you really want this thing to handle, this is the seat to use (run by all the top national level cars)

This is the full build on my car. I might have left some thing out but this is pretty much it.

Engine

·AEM Warm Air Intake
·DC Sports 4-2-1 Header
· Custom stainless 2.25” exhaust, Magnaflow 14” muffler, dumps by passenger rear wheel
·high flow cat
·Orthodox Underdrive Crank Pulley
·Tiny 10lb-ish battery
·No AC
·Redshift ECU with 7600RPM rev limit
·Front/Rear ES Mount Inserts

Suspension
· GC/Koni SPSS Race Valved/Shortened Shocks with Eibach springs (will PM you with spring rate)
· CRX HF Front sway bar with poly endlinks
·All Energy Suspension Black Poly bushings throughout whole car
·Ingalls rear camber arms
·Hawk HPS Front pads/ Hawk Blues for track
·ATE Superblue Fluid
·Progress Rear 24mm Infinitely adjustable sway bar. Not the three holes like the ST – it’s a slot. I’ve actually lengthened the slot to make the bar stiffer than what comes from Progress.
·GPO3 Red Glastic rear sway bar pillowblock mounts.
·15x7.5 Rota Slipstreams 40mm offset front wheels with Bridgestones RE-01R's
·15x7 Enkei RPF1 35mm offset rear wheels with Bridgestones RE-01R's

Interior
·Honda factory radio block off plate
·Corbeau Forza on stock sliders – meets 25lb rule but its damn close.
·Mount for DL1/DL90 just below emergency brake
·MOMO steering wheel.

Yeah, the one at Talladaga GP
I will be there also if you would like me to help you get the suspension dialed in

They rode fine in my car. Are you bottoming anything out?? After talking to a couple places(including Koni) 500lbs is the supposed limit, but it depends on the car. I've seen a couple guys running 600s on OTS yellows, and I plan on getting them revalved eventually. The car will not be low enough to need shortening, but I did get the GC tophats for some extra shock travel in the front.

I'm boosted already. That 14b is a spare/upgrade. It's ported & has a larger wastegate flapper to help with boost creap. :goodjob: Oh and don't be doggin the 14b is a great turbo, and it does exactly what I am building this car for. :burnout

Definatly :goodjob: I got pretty comfortable with my last setup. It wasn't going to be suited for the track though. I'll hopefully have a little bit of time to try this out before then. I'll start slow and get use to it again.

cool man. about the koni thing, dont run anything stiffer than a 500 b.c it will kill them shock. revalving must be done if any higher. ALSO, dont EVER run them full stiff because that will kill them to.

If you want, i can send u the settings i have on my suspension for a starting place...top secret:ninja:

So I whipped this out, to torch out some bushings

http://i240.photobucket.com/albums/ff114/mugen_racer91/hondameet/EF%20build/Ef-build-038.jpg

Heres the LCAs with the bushings/sleeves removed
http://i240.photobucket.com/albums/ff114/mugen_racer91/hondameet/EF%20build/Ef-build-036.jpg
So now that i got everything out, i decided to to repaint them. But first a little bead blasting.(Bottom-before, Top-after)
http://i240.photobucket.com/albums/ff114/mugen_racer91/hondameet/EF%20build/Ef-build-039.jpg

Well I should be picking up my transmission tonight or tomorrow. Still need to get all the rear bushings done, and install all the shocks, etc. Freaking Truehonda never shipped the freaking top hats. Once I got all my other Groundcontrol stuff i called and asked where they were and was told they were shipping out the next day. So I wait a week and get nothing. I call them up again and ask about them again. He said other people have ordered the same setup after me and all recieved them. Well turns out they never shipped them to begin with. So they finally shiped them yesterday, but they wont be here till thursday  They didnt even offer to overnight them or anything. Don't order from them

UPDATE: 3/10/08

Well i've been working on the EF as much as possible(= a little bit here and there), and have got a good bit accomplished. I have been slacking in the picture deptment though. So since the last time I posted the tranny has been reinstalled w/ new axles. Then we put on the front suspension etc. Chris redid my harness and it cleaned up very nicely. Then we fought with the rear trailing arm bushings. Well the tool i bought is for 88-00 civics and 94+ integras. The DA bushings are bigger and the tool wouldn't push them in straight.(BTW Slack's Machine shop and every other shop we called would not press them in, now I know why) So after some debate I went and picked up some 91 civic RTAs and swapped my disc brakes over too them instead. They had decent bushings, so I left them for the time being. (my tool will work for these). Then I installed the RTAs and all the rear suspension. Tested fitted a wheel and figured out that I need to do some fender rolling (expected). So went ahead and rolled the driver's side to see how bad it was going to be. It ended up going easy, and I didnt have to do to much in order for good fitment. Now i;m still waiting on my brake pads and lines to come in and ill have every thing to complete it. I'm scheduled to get retuned on Sat. as well. Heres a few pics

UPDATE 3/15/08
Well she is going now, and i'll update with some pics as soon as possible. When we redid the wiring harness it ended up breaking the brittle wires from the original swap, so we had to figure that out. Once that was done I set it off the jackstands and set the ride height. It looked sick slammed, but not pratical. Then took it and got an alignment done. While driving it I seemed to be real laggy and wouldnt hit full boost. So after going over all the couplings, exhaust gaskets, etc. Turns out my wastegate took a crap. So its good to go now, and I just put my Walboro 255 in, and I am getting retuned today. :scared:

how did the retune go?

Decent, had a boost leak problem, and couldnt get it to hold full boost at red line. So it didnt make any better power, but now I can rev all the way to redline :D And I fixed the problem now
