Does noone like VW's? I think I might be purchasing a Golf soon and I haven't seen a VW on here. Is there some disadvantage they have over other imports? I've been looking too build something that's atleast moderately original but is it even worth it?

I don't think I would start with a Golf. Maybe a GTI, but definitely not a Golf.

It's a 97 2.0 Gti. I don't want fast, just quick and reliable.

What do you mean? Like the k04, the turbo that came on tt's which is a little bit bigger or like the big turbos people are doing like gt28, gt30, etc.
yes the k04 and what kind of power they put out?

230ish CRANK...
Honestly the K04 is not that great of an upgrade over the stock K03. Almost not worth it for the money IMHO.

I'm just gonna get the ****in thing. It's already dropped, probably gonna throw some 17" bbs rims on it. I'm going to look at it tomorrow and if it isn't terribly slow I'll grab it. It's a good deal.

depending on what your idea of reliable is. I work for vw the golf gfi 2.0 is a good car as long as it is a manual. Expect replacement of the coolant temp sensor and the mass air flow sensor. If you are going to work on it your self invest in a bentley and only a bentley repair manual also purchase a rosstech vag com. Spending a couple hundred bucks on those will save you a lot of money and you will know as much as a be tech about your car in matter of months. The 1.8t motors sludge if not taken care of and most of them are not. I would stick with the 2.0 and invest in a neuspeed supercharger after some time. If you have any questions pm me.

Thats with an upgraded turbo on the 1.8T. You CAN go as crazy as you would like...I have seen 800+ HP 1.8Ts out there. It comes with a K03 from the factory, upgrading to a K04 which is only slightly larger is not really worth it IMHO.
The one you are looking at has a 2.0 so it is an NA engine and it doesnt matter anyway.

Well it reallly depends. I know of people making 225 wheel. If you are trying to make your car really fast its not the way to go, but it's an amazing turbo for daily driving, walkers car is fast, pretty reliable, and it has 220k miles on it.(100k on k04)
I dont know much about the transverse 1.8Ts since I know you guys make A LOT more power than the longitudinal. I just know that Paul got something like 210whp on his K03, so spending the money for a K04 ($750) + a new file (min $200 assuming an upgrade from a current file), Injectors, etc. to make it all work just for an extra 15 to 30 hp MAX. Thats just my opinion though. It is a great turbo and definitely reliable for daily driving, just not much THAT more than the stock.
Oh well...I still have my K03...hopefully a nice disco potato will take its place soon.

Oh btw what's the best place to get parts for this thing? I can't find too many for a 97 2.0 everything seems to be for the 1.8.

Truthfully performance wise there isnt much for the 2.0
Maybe an intake or exhaust. Other then that just a supercharger.

Find a MK3 GTI with a vr6. they're not that expensive. It's quick and reliable. And if you wanna go fast later on, you can boost the phuck out of it. The 2.slow isn't worth modding IMO.
