:(
Now my account is frozen and I will be unable to get any money until about 2-4 weeks from now. I am just glad I have $200 cash at home
I just checked my credit score last week 680 and I really hope that this hasn't fuk up my credit, since I am looking at getting another car.
Has anybody else dealt with this, if so do you have any tips?

Dan had it happen and he had to do lots of leg work himself to get it taken care of. I wouldn't suggest being idle and letting the bank handle it alone. Dan got on his on-line account ad called every company that had a fraudulent charge. His credit is fine after t all, but like I said he had to do a lot of leg work himself. Most of the companies will go ahead and reverse the charge immediately if you just inform them of the matter.

From yahoo answers:
No, it won't affect your FICO score, however it could get reported to ChexSystems which is similar to a credit bureau for checking and savings accounts. The only way that if would hurt your FICO score would be if the overdraft went unpaid and the account was charged off with a negative balance.

Do you have on-line banking? If you do, you can start immediately on the charges they made. Each charge made has a corresponding phone number for the company where the charge was made and it should show up on your account. If they made direct withdrawals, then your bank will obviously have to deal with that. I'm not saying to not let your bank handle it...just make sure you are also involved because banks are b.itches.

Doesn't have phone numbers listed on my online statement like my amex card statement does. But it shows the county and state the charged was made and the addresses on some charges. Time to pull up yahoo Map and get some phone numbers. I know exactly how slow companies are and you must stay on them and do things on your own if you hope to get anything done

same here, I still have my card, but they were able to charge wellover 800 at the numerous gas stations in Michigan. That leads me to believe a Ni.g.g.a was behind it, only they ride around on E all the time. SO more than likely they hooked up all their homies too

I really do not post in the WL, I posted this to get tips on how to handle the situation as this is my first time. All fred wants to know is, how the **** do you get your cc # stolen? Seriously, how dense are some of you people. I've handled thousands upon thousands of cc transactions and have yet to have a single issue.
You really must suck at life to find yourself in such a predicament.

Hmmm.... I was thinking about moving my accounts to GA Telco but I'm not sure after hearing this. I have had a few car loans through them but I may just keep my relationship with them limited to that. They have great rates.
Anyway, my debit card number was stolen 2 or 3 months ago. I have no idea how it happened, my card was in my purse and I don't use my debit card for online purchases. I use a credit card and then pay it back immediately for this very reason, security.
I guess it was one of those skimming devices in a gas station or ATM or some shady staff at a restaurant sicne that's the only place my card would ever leave my sight.
I check my account every day so I noticed it immediately when it was still a pending charge and had not even gone through. $110 to a restaurant in NYC. I called Wachovia and the money was back in my account in two days, had a new card in about 4 days, no holds on my account just a fraud watch. I signed an affidavit saying that I did not make the charges and that was that. Back to business as usual. I would say I'm more careful with my card but I have always been careful so there isn't much else to do other than watch your accounts very closely. Make it a habit to log on every morning just to be sure everything is as it shoud be. That's how I saved myself a lot of trouble.
Oh, and this will not effect your credit in any way unless the charges remain unresolved and they charge off the negative amount in your bank account. But your day to day activity in your bank account has nothing to do with your credit score.

Oh snap. That's identity theft. You're going to need to monitor all three of your credit reports and have fraud alerts put on them. If they have enough of your information to open one card, they can open others.
I use Transunion's "True Credit" service to monitor mine. You can look at your reports and scores any time and they send alerts to your e-mail or phone as soon as anything changes or a new account is opened. I really like the service. I changed my address with my bank and credit cards about 2 weeks ago and had an alert in my e-mail within two days.

Someone stole my AMEX card and ran up $10,000 for two limos (I made a huge thread about it back then). I filed a report with both the police and my card company. I wasn't held accountable for any of it.

Yes and no.
You can use it as a debt card and enter in your pin #. You can also use it as a "credit" card and sign for it. Both take it straight out of your account as you said, though.
JennB
02-05-2008, 02:54 PM
"Credit" card by definition means you are issued credit by someone and the card is the means you use to spend that money. So whether you sign for it or use a PIN number, it still debits directly from your account and is a debit card.
I use my debit card like a credit card because I don't like using my PIN in public places, but my bank does not extend any credit for those purchases. The money is essentially gone as soon as the transaction is complete.
Good luck with getting this resolved. You need to contact the credit bureau's as soon as possible so they don't allow any more accounts to be opened in your name.
