im so close to starting on this build, but i have a few questions, and hopefully people can let me in on personal experiences, if you have an h22turbo how long has it been turboed, how many psi, is it built (pistons, sleeves, rods, head work) internal wastegate or external, and how much power are you getting. i just need some opinions before i spend some money. thanks.

just make sure you have enough money for another block if you plan on boosting an h22 with stock internals

There are a couple different threads floating around with a couple BB6 Prelude's running 400+ whp on completely stock motors. It's an argument that's been around for years...."is it in the tuning or is it in the build". Either way I would build your motor prior to psi.

hell yeah.

i wouldn't even run 8 psi without sleeving that block.

don't waste your time. build the block before you boost.

I had a friend that ran 300whp daily without any issue couple years back, before they developed the special coated internal parts for the stock sleeve H22. He had different maps, one tuned conservative for low poost on 93 pump gas, and the other 1 is for race gas with methanol injection to help with detonation for weekend/occasional fun at 400whp.

He then got power hungry so he tore it apart and built it.

Here are my opinions:

AnclyT's stock tuned drag kit at 6 psi lasted only a month. here is my opinions on H22's:

*sleeved built block.
*convert auto tensioner to manual tensioner. ( Andy broke so many auto tensioners )
*run big turbo since its built now.
*get the b itch tune and you're good to go.

Is there a meet at the V tonight? I thought it was tomorrow? What did your entire engine build run you (if you dont mind me asking) ? I would be interested in seeing what you did and how it was done. I've got a brand new spare block that I'm getting ready to start building for more boost.

1) no sleeves = mahle pistons
2) sleeved block= GE or AEBS, do not cheap out
3) no point in turboing if running 5-6 psi..nitrous would be better. sure, i hear it cost money to fill the bottle. who cares, its cheaper then buying another motor.
4) if turboed, do not skimp out on an engine management system
5) once you get an engine management system, get it tuned...DO NOT USE SOMEONE's MAP.

FYI..the weak link in the h22 motor is the pistons ringlands. it sits higher so it takes less pressure to break. the sleeves are strong, they are not weak.

mahle is the way to go if you dont want to sleeve the block. i blew my motor running 4psi. the ringlands gave out on me, but that was after running a 75shot for 5 months. now i have darton sleeves, wiseco pistons, eagle rods, acl bearings. And i am in the process of building the head.

well how about the kit for it, im guessing it will have to be custom, i cant really find a turbo kit for a 96-00 civic with an h22

Yeah, your more than likely going to have to piece together a kit. I've got a 3'' downpipe, and some other misc. stuff. Good luck with the build.
