Here is vid of the "Vanishing Point" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6CX6Lcz8XPk)

One day in 1981, Sammy Miller lit the fuse and held on tight. An impressive 1.67sec later he was doing 247mph. Suitably enthused by this, in 1984 he went one better and reached 386mph in 3.58sec within the specified quarter mile. To this day it is the fastest drag run in history. So Vanishing Point is almost certainly the fastest accelerating device that can have any claim to being a car. Every time Miller drove it, his nose and ears bled. Sammy took the Oxygen dragster to Lake George, New York, attached skis to it and ran a new world ice speed record with a 1.67 second run at 247mph over an eight mile.

These cars are banned now.... what a shame

traction isnt the problem, its not powered through the wheels. keeping it straight is the problem.

the engine he used in "Vanishing Point" was the same type used by NASA in the lunar module. He had to lie almost flat on his back in the car; otherwise, the incredible acceleration would have caused him to black out.

This is the fastest "anything" to ever make 1/4 mile pass. Sammy did it many times though when Rocket Dragsters were allowed!
