Sorry but I'm totally new to the SR20 world. Will a 95 240sx (3" downpipe and exhaust) with a redtop pass emissions?
Any help would be appreciated.

No you're not gonna pass any emissions w/ SR swapped cars. They do no have EGR nor catalyst. The ECU and motor are not set up for emissions standards.

does the law still stand where you just need a bill for residency in a non-emissions county?
or do you actually have to have your license down there now?

Well it "could"
The 95 will have to roll on the dyno. I can't remember the last time anyone at any place actually INSPECTED the car.
How is it tuned? Can you detune it? You could make it pass the sniffer test...

not true. SOMETIMES a car will pass w/o a cat. Take your chances.
if you dont pass. go to a muffler shop. get them to make a bolt in style cat and bolt in style test pipe so when it comes to emission time you can just swap the cat in and out. :goodjob:

In reality it is EASIER to pass an OBD2 car with no cat with O2 sims than a OBD1 with no cat... That would end up almost impossible...
You could install a 3" cat(get a good one.... they don't hurt performance THAT much) and tune the car properly. It will pass.

You are correct. An OBD2 with antifoulers drilled in will not throw a CEL and therefore pass emissions despite the black crud coming out the back.

Or put your cat heatshields onto a test pipe :)

Yeah I don't know if they shop I went to was crazy but I brough my 03 saturn to be tested, and not only did they plug it in but they also put a sniffer in the tailpipe. I was pissed because my cat was fried from N20. Somehow it passed though. CEL came on an hour later ha.
