I've been thinking about squeeaing some power into my coupe, and I was wondering what ya'll thought about the "ever-risky Ls/Vtec"?

Right now, I have a Hybrid Gsr. A B17 Gsr bottom end with a 2001 Gsr head.

Would it be worth it to switch out a Ls Bottom or B20 bottom-end for my 1.7?

I want it to be a stock for stock swap, excluding arp head studs. I've done my research, and it seems that the general consensus is that, if built right, a stock ls/vtec will make more power than a stock gsr.

I just wanna hear the Squads thoughts.:tongue1: Im a power-whore! :goodjob:

yes a stock ls/vtec will make more power then a gsr...my friend had a ls/vtec wit no internals that made 190 at the wheel then like 250 with nos ran 11's...in my opinion ls/vtec is worth it i was also interest in building my own little ls/vtec...but i heard that the b16 head works better then the gsr...

Well you can ask Mr. Kidd his LS/VTEC made 230hp at the wheel, but it was built. Hmmm as I read in a thread here in IA some guy put one together and only made 157hp more than a GSR yes... but not by much though.

Nah Homey. A Poor Man's Type R is a GSR bottom-end with a b16 head.

but i heard that the b16 head works better then the gsr...
I have heard that the B16 head flows slightly better, but if im going with a stock ls/vtec, the gsr will yeild a higher compression ratio. Higher CR = More HP!:goodjob:

Dammn it. I should have made this a poll. Oh well...

Keep ur B17 -- it's rare. Toss a 1.8 crank it and superman that ho3.

It is rare, but it aint no Type R. I mean, it's special, but not special enough for me to nott wanna get faster...lol.

About putting a 1.8 crank inside the B17; would it be benefitial to put the gsr 1.8 crank inside, or the ls crank?

The B16 head flow air better from what is was told, besides they can be had at a lower cost than a gsr

The B16 head does flow better than others, minus the Type-R's because of the hand port job. The thing that makes the GSR head valuable is the quench zones. IIRC, these quench zones allow for the air that flows into the head to be cooler.

Every LS/VTEC and GSR will yield different number based on a number of factors, to many to list. Not every setup will yield the numbers you want off the bat. That's were performance parts and tuning play major role.

Ive heard that ls/vtecs are notorious for oil leaks... and the only reason why you get more tq is because of the heavier crank but doesn't hold up well to high revs.

The only prob with any vtec head swap on a non vtec block is that the oil holes don't EXACTLY match up. Thats why alot of ppl have oil probs. You can have them matched but w/o that you'll lose in the end.... Just what I've seen and heard.
