Serious Topic: Why do you hate the Mustang?

Ok so I know its probably going to be a serious stretch to get a serious response out of the people here, but here goes.


So Ive owned my car for about two weeks now and I absolutely love it more than any previous car that Ive had. Im only 24, so saying that, I havent experienced a ton of vehicles. But Ive owned a WRX/300zx/etc, and driven many other high end vehicles a time or two. Yes, I know there are many cars out there that are amazing. However, Im talking about one certain car. Now, being completly honest, I ragged on the new Mustangs all the time, especially the V6 models. Mostly because I always saw women driving the base model sixers or maybe with the Pony package :gay: And I drove a friends auto V6 and it was a horrible experience. I vowed to myself that I would never own one, and Id stick with my Subaru. Now, the GT and previous year model Cobras, Ive always had a little respect for them because they are the true breed of what a mustang should be. Poor on gas mileage, rough ride, but having that special "V8" charm. Now, Ive never had the pleasure of driving a stock platform S197 GT, but when I went out to purchase another vehicle, the ones I had in mind were an Audi TT, Audi A6, VW GTI, Newer WRX, etc etc. I test drove all of them and they all had their special qualities I liked. However, it wasnt the "OMG I WANT" factor. Now, about to give up an the Mustang GT being the last one on my list to test drive, I gave it the benefit of doubt and took her out. Now mind you, the car isnt stock suspension wise. I took it out and was amazed and how stout the car felt, the lack of body roll, the feeling of actually having some "meat" in the rear (no pun intended). I fell in love with another domestic.

So here are some things Ive noticed about this car, coming from a few different import/domestic platforms:

1. The new GT has tons of aftermarket, even from import companies.

2. The fan base/forum base/etc is pretty large, which is to be expected.

3. The interior is decent, but who buys a Mustang for luxury anyways?

4. Personal opinion: I think the car is beautiful in the looks department, of course that will vary from person to person.

5. For under 21k dollars, I think you get a lot. (Personal opinion once again)

5. The car is more respected among others, more so than certain imports. Again, this will vary.

Now, with that being said, here is my question. If you dislike the vehicle, please say why? Dont just say, well I dont like it because its a Mustang and my grandma had a 96 base model V6 and it took a **** after 2 weeks. I want a serious educated response. And keep the comments civil, I dont want this to turn into a flame fest.

Yeah, but I see a lot more 350Zs than I do Stangs......especially around the buckhead area. But most of the time I see V6 Stangs. I dont see too many GT's.

I don't hate on the mustangs, I just couldn't see myself owning 1.

However, I do like the new model. I drove one, and it's good. I like the aftermarkets for it. If I have spare money, I'd go for one just for the raw muscle look and power.

However, from the social status and business point of view, I limit myself to owning one because I want the classy and luxury look + comfort. Hence why I chose the G35. Another reason is because I've always love the Nissan Skyline. With the G35 being the First official Skyline in US, and the body style is just gorgeous with the class. That's why I went for it.

The only thing I don't like about them is the lack of performance and the new body styles make me cringe.

I think it's all about personal preference.

The reason why I don't like mustangs (or most tuner cars) is because 99% of the time the people who drive them are ass holes. They think their **** is the fastest car on the planet. Especially ignorant rednecks who think that just because their huge heavy car has a weak underpowered V8 that it will automatically smoke my "rice burner". They don't realize that a mustang GT is really not that fast (stock, or even slightly modded its still a 14 sec car with an average driver). Just because it will spin tires doesn't mean its a fast car. my grandma's toyota avalon will spin tires.

According to FD rules you can't convert FWD to RWD (remember when Blake Fuller had the Integra? The rule came because of that.) and Scion's only com FWD. The did. It was called the Cobra in '03-04. It had an IRS suspension but the decided to go with the solid axle in 05+ b/c they were more concerned with drag times than road courses

My buddy drives a V6 GT Tib. I drove one a while back and loved the sound of them with just an intake. However, I vowed I would never own a FWD vehicle again.

I had thought about going economical and getting some sort of swapped or fi civic, but I dont want to be looked at as that kind of stereotype. Are you retarded? Ford has great cars, but unfortunately they are in overseas markets only. And NO they aren't live axle. Speaking of which, the ST220 .

whats with the comparison of the 350z? wtf? my car is not no mustang. i do like mustangs(preferably 03-04 cobras) but come on now, comparing it to the 3fitty is just insulting. i used to have a mustang(99 gt vert) i loved it, that torque is just addicting, and they do mod pretty easy. i like the new s197 mustang but its way to big. imo. my s196 felt much lighter and more nimble.(it was) but the new ones look sharp. Mustang>civic anyday. i would love to see the difference that suspension made on your's NEM. enjoy

Ok so I know its probably going to be a serious stretch to get a serious response out of the people here, but here goes.


So Ive owned my car for about two weeks now and I absolutely love it more than any previous car that Ive had. Im only 24, so saying that, I havent experienced a ton of vehicles. But Ive owned a WRX/300zx/etc, and driven many other high end vehicles a time or two. Yes, I know there are many cars out there that are amazing. However, Im talking about one certain car. Now, being completly honest, I ragged on the new Mustangs all the time, especially the V6 models. Mostly because I always saw women driving the base model sixers or maybe with the Pony package :gay: And I drove a friends auto V6 and it was a horrible experience. I vowed to myself that I would never own one, and Id stick with my Subaru. Now, the GT and previous year model Cobras, Ive always had a little respect for them because they are the true breed of what a mustang should be. Poor on gas mileage, rough ride, but having that special "V8" charm. Now, Ive never had the pleasure of driving a stock platform S197 GT, but when I went out to purchase another vehicle, the ones I had in mind were an Audi TT, Audi A6, VW GTI, Newer WRX, etc etc. I test drove all of them and they all had their special qualities I liked. However, it wasnt the "OMG I WANT" factor. Now, about to give up an the Mustang GT being the last one on my list to test drive, I gave it the benefit of doubt and took her out. Now mind you, the car isnt stock suspension wise. I took it out and was amazed and how stout the car felt, the lack of body roll, the feeling of actually having some "meat" in the rear (no pun intended). I fell in love with another domestic.

So here are some things Ive noticed about this car, coming from a few different import/domestic platforms:

1. The new GT has tons of aftermarket, even from import companies.

2. The fan base/forum base/etc is pretty large, which is to be expected.

3. The interior is decent, but who buys a Mustang for luxury anyways?

4. Personal opinion: I think the car is beautiful in the looks department, of course that will vary from person to person.

5. For under 21k dollars, I think you get a lot. (Personal opinion once again)

5. The car is more respected among others, more so than certain imports. Again, this will vary.

Now, with that being said, here is my question. If you dislike the vehicle, please say why? Dont just say, well I dont like it because its a Mustang and my grandma had a 96 base model V6 and it took a **** after 2 weeks. I want a serious educated response. And keep the comments civil, I dont want this to turn into a flame fest.

I dont like the quality feel. They feel cheap. And the drivers, NOT ALL, but some Mustang drivers usually are a little cocky. And for me personally I am more of a handling guy and making Mustang handle can be done, but they weigh a bit, and it is just not THE car to have for it. But it can be done.

I like the power from the V8 ones.

Ford is producing the FR500s for racing, and they are being campaigned in the Koni Challenge as well as other series (iirc). The biggest problem with Mustangs in general for road course is the suspension geometry. It's really tough to get a car to turn when the front and rear roll centers are as goofed up as they are in Mustangs. The cars can be made to handle, but it's usually pretty spendy.

just for example if every state were to recieve the same amount of GT350's there would be 10 of these in each state which would be very uncommon to spot one driving on the streets. Also in the next two years of production there were probably 3,000(+/-) models made and sold. Now a days there are mustang models which include; standard GT, shelby GT, hertz shelby gt (500 models), shelby gt500, roush stage 1 (just cosmetic), roush stage 2 (cosmetic and suspension) roush stage 3 (cosmetic, suspension and supercharger), roush blackjack (most rare model), roush 427 (which is stupid and has nothing to do with c.i. and is the hp rating), saleen (cosmetic and minor performance, i/e and probably suspension), saleen parnelli jones mustang (my favorite model, 500 made i think, comes with 5.0 built motor rated @ 400 hp n/a), saleen supercharged, saleen supercharged extreme, ronaele 350r, ronaele, 450r, ronaele 550r, and special order ronaele 750r.

i doesn't actually hurt the mustang in a sales way, but in the way people view mustangs (mainly people who like muscle cars over other vehicles) like i said it is just my opinion and what i think all of these models do to the mustang

i'm not saying i wouldn't drive any of these models but i would rather have a regular GT over a "base" saleen or roush even over the hertz shelby or shelby gt

i remember some kid pulled behind me one night up 85..while i was boosted. I was like YES a GT...so he pulls up next to me and I just started laughing. yes corvettes are mass produced now :( (except for the z06 and the new zr-1, which will only have 2000 models a year) but atleast the corvettes do not have all these other models. there is the C6, C6 "pace car" bullshit, and a z06, of course you have lingenfelter aftermarket however they are not sold at dealerships :)

Thanks man. Yeah Im trying to keep her clean. Pretty much all the parts actually were on the car before! I was pretty damn lucky and it saved me a bunch in modding expenses lol. In the past week I installed my exhaust and got my windows tinted, so probably the next thing is a CAI+Tune from Brenspeed. Ive seen some guys post runs in the high 12s with those mods (cai+tune, UDP, exhaust), so Im excited. I just need to practice at the track.

They use a lot of newer GT's for the Koni Challenge I thought?

The use them in GS (Grand Sport) or the one class faster than ST(Stree tuner) in Koni Challenge and they are very competitive.

If YOU like it and enjoy it, who cares what anyone else thinks.

My "first" car was a 65 mustang coupe. I fixed it up for a little bit only to realize that is wasnt not a good first car given the condition it was in. This really got me into mustangs alot, so much that I pretty much hated imports. So I guess you could call me one of those cocky mustang owners. When I decided to sell the mustang, I bought a 94 prelude (which was totaled by a drunk), and this pretty much opened my eyes to the import world and the possibilities of these cars. I plan on getting back into mustangs after college because they really are nice cars (to me), but when I do, I probably wont be an ******* to import owners. Only ricers. :D
