HPI RS4 help

I just bought a Nitro RS4 and I love it. But a few hours ago it stopped running (no big deal) but when I try to start it back up, its real tough to start. Its like the trans is stuck in gear. When i pull the cord it starts trying to spin all 4 wheels. I can get it started but its sooo hard now. Do u guys know how to disengage the trans to back to neutral until i hit the throttle?

You have to adjust the throttle linkage. The trannies are not like a car where you can take it outta gear it's always in gear, but by adjusting the throttle linkage you can get it to a point where it'll stay still but still be running. If you did nothing to it perhaps you melted the clutch show to the housing and shaft? Is it running fine when you get it going? I'm hoping you did not run it too lean.

i dont think i did. I believe i had it WAYYY to rich b/c it went through a tank in like 1 minute. when it starts it does take off. but ive adjusted everything i believe. i'll keep tinkering with it.

i dunno maybe i did burn it up. not sure. i cant take the engine off with these ****ty tools. ill be at my shop tomorrow so i can take the motor out and possibly apart...

Just pull the (think it;s called) Tranny bellhousing. Under that is the clutch shoe. No need to yank the motor. You should've had little to no smoke at idle and part throttle, Lots of smoke at WOT. Blueish smoke. If it starts though and runs good I doubt you toasted the motor. But if it is cheap enough to fix. If only real motors were like that.

If the wheels are turning when you crank it over, it's likely something with the clutch. The wheels should be able to turn freely without turning the motor over, check the inside of the bell housing (easier when the car's apart) to see if you've got debris or something in there. Make sure the clutch spring is holding the shoes off the bell housing at rest. As for tuning, it makes all the difference. Start with the factory needle settings and get the car warmed up- then start tuning according to instructions (I always forget which needle to start with), leaning the car out little by little. You'll know when you get it right- smooth idle, quick launch, nice stream of smoke at full throttle, and it just sounds right. Good luck.

^ i think imma just sell it. something keeps going wrong with it. I just installed the new clutch, starts up but stays engaged. So i stopped it and tried firing it up again and now the engine sounds like it is making noise...when i pull the glow plug it goes away. I cant win. I will prob sell everything.

So am I not helping you with it? You quitter.man i dont have the funds. I appreciate the help man but for me...to make it easy on me is to just order a new motor/trans fully built + bigger. And thats well over 100 bucks. I have 2 HPI's one RS4 and RS4-2 one fully assembled, the other isnt. So I'll just sell everything together. Everytime i touch an rc car it fuks up. I have a BRAND NEW HPI Drift electric car and its already broken. we got it like 3 weeks ago.

HAHA brings back memories. These things always break but soo much fun and you really can learn alot. After a while you get really good at fixing **** but by that time your fingers are all tired! I have 3 gas powered RC cars. HPi rocks! i've had one of mine for over 7 years.

i odered a new ESC for it and motor (motor is fine, just came with the ESC)

Everything I have learned about nitro cars, I taught myself. The best way to learn about those little fukers is to take them apart and put them back together. If you have any knowledge of how a 2stroke engine works, it should be no problem whatsoever.

Another thing about nitro cars is that they will nickle and dime you to death. With mine, I would drive it untill something broke. The parts were usually only $5-$10 but that shiit adds up after you do it about 20 times...
