I plan on buying a really good desktop here soon, more along the lines of a gaming computer, music(itunes), and very simple pic and video editior, and priced out a full desktop and acces. through HP for a pretty good price, for a basically top of the line cimputer with eveyrthing i wanted, but i have also been looking around and here that Velocity is a good system to get? Just curious for those that are very into computers that can give me a good idea of whats a good company to go through for making a custom home desktop system! :goodjob:

building it yourself is the best idea period. I built mine for about 800 bucks, and it's better then anything prebuilt on the market (at or around the price range,800) now. Plus I dual boot and have office 07 pro..:) Windows Xp for gaming , Vista for work. :)

You can build a system under 1k that does all that. Mine runs everything, inculding crysis, wow, CoD4, WiC etc. Doesn't even blink and eye at em.

Vista will raise the price even more though. I will NEVER buy another desktop premade again. To get something that runs games great you spend a ton when it's not needed.

okay cool so the price i got through HP is that bad, becuase i built about the same thing. But for 2200 this was a package deal, sound system, added accessories, keyboard, mouse, monitior, tower, and programs and warrenty! so thats not that bad of a deal!

This is a very good build for the price. IMO nothing can beat it for the price. There are new upcoming cpu releases from Intel this year, so if you want to wait off for a better rig, an e2180 or e2200 would suffice instead of the Quad.

I play all those games. Even with a 750 system you wont have a problem. If you really want to spend 2200.. then just get the top of the line products.

I think you're talking about the elite series pavilion right? that thing is pretty 1337, it has like 3gigs of ddr2 which aint bad

But yeah obviously building it yourself is going to be cheaper... But if you're not one to tinker around with it yourself i'd go with a premade one... hp has 24/7 customer support and lotsa other goodies aside from the computer.

I've built all of the computers I've owned, and sometimes its a pain when later on you realize that it wasn't such a great choice to use xxx motherboard with xxx sound or video card bc every once in a while xxxx will happen, and bs like that.

Just go to a private computer dealer like Monarch computers, or Ginstar Computers... They'll build you an insane computer to your spec, and can throw a warranty on there.
RAM is dirt cheap right now make sure you get at LEAST 4gb

4gigs of ram is a waste without a 64 bit o/s. I agree that you can run into problems using a certain part with another part, but thats where a little up front research will save hours of time and headache. Exactly what model are you looking at from hp? Keep in mind most Mobo's today have onboard sound, and a lot of them do a damn good job of it. (especially the hd audio ones) I actually went back to my onboard HD audio from and X-Fi fatality edition sound card. There wasn't enough difference on my rig to justfy the price on it. To me spending that kinda cash on something prebuilt, knowing I could save nearly half the money doing it myself, is unthinkable. Now something like the blackbird, yes sir, that thing is badass and I would buy it in a heart beat, but the regular run of the mill computers they put out don't do do it for me. I'd rather have the extra 1100 bucks to blow on other things. Most often (after the build is complete and works) the things that go wrong with a comp are usually software related, but if a part fails major items like cpu's/mobo's/ram have warranty's so to get em fixed it's just an investment in time. Most households have more then one computer (mine does for sure) so the down time without a comp is minimal. Sorry for the long post, but 2200 is alot to pay for something that can be had for cheaper that is better...

My wife's laptop took 6 weeks for them to fix when the power connecter solder point broke on the mobo....I could've fixed it in 25min, and I would've had I known how long it would've taken, but warrantys are not always a great thing.

well ****, is there some nice ass computer store or site, that sells all this ship for cheap. becuase when i priced out the pic and video editior programs, cables, speaker system, mouse keyboard, and monitior individualy plus the price of a good tower with everything it still came to around $2200. ?!?!?!!? and if i go with the custom online built package through HP with the warrentys ALL software, virus protection and such, it all prices out the same?

the reason why companies sell it so cheap is cause they take shortcuts. they use plastic parts, or manufacture their own parts so if something breaks you're forced into repairing them.

IMO software is a given, you can get it anyway you need if you have the means too. illegally or not.

go to tigerdirect.com, zipzoomfly.com, newegg.com and check out their barebone kits. you will get good ones starting at 500 then you can add your own video card (given that its not already included) as well as upgrading processors, harddrives, etc etc.

i build my computer from scratch about a year ago. it runs every new game on the market at medium to full with no problems. and if i ever need a new part i can just upgrade it myself which takes a couple of minutes.

the only brand name computers i would buy are laptops, and even then i'd stick to ASUS. good luck and hopefully you'll choose to learn about building a computer (its not hard at all).

if you want a powerhouse, may i suggest VOODOO pc? lolol.

Sounds to me like you just want a pc thats already done and you don't have to do anything but plug her in. I do all my shopping for comp stuff between tiger/newegg/xoxide. It will take a fair amount of research to find the deals to keep the price well under 2200 for everything but IMO it is worth it to do the looking. If your satisfied with what you'd be paying for with the HP, then by all means go with that, just keep in mind that with a little paitence and shopping through various sites, a faster/better comp can be had. What model HP are you looking into?

2200 is a whooole bunch for a desktop. Listen to these guys and get a system made. You can bootleg all the software for free, and buy you a nice 27" LCD with the remaining money and an awesome 5.1 logitech speaker system to sound REAL bad ass with your games. Im sure the guys on here will help you out with everything. Just make sure you get a great warranty. PM me if you want a nice hookup on a desktop - I'll send you to the right company here locally.

The first one is a decent system, don't like the 8500gt however nor the 20inch LCD. 2200 for all that is a bit much even so . The 2nd looks great but a better cpu would be great. 6000's are not bad at all, but the q6600 is a better one. Also the 2nd has a blue-ray drive so....:)

I'm still of the oppinion that you can build a much better system then either of those for less the 2200. But if I had to go with one, I'd take the HP. The Alienware is nice, but I don't like the CPU, and it does not specify if the O/S is 64bit, so that 4gigs or ram could be a waste with it not being able to be fully utilized. Couple that with a lack of office software, big no no imo. LIke I said however, the 20inch LCD on the HP I do not like, nor do I like the 8500gt. That thing has no balls compared to the 8800 series. Seriously the 8500 is nice if you like games like diablo and lower setting on some new ones. I thought you could buy the HP computer itself to your specs then go get a better monitor and other things like keyboard/mouse/etc seperate. That would be the way to go I think. If your going with the hp find out about getting a better g/c through them or buy it seperate asap.

It's still not clear if the alienware is a 64bit o/s, if it's not the 4gigs of ram is not usuable, windows will not see all the memory so youd be wasting cash on it. Of the 2 the alienware is more powerful gaming wise, but the real question is how much of a gamer are you? The Hp seems a nice all around comp, but the alienware is packing more muscle. I just don't like the 19in monitors on both.

yo.....if ya build the computer yourself, you will save a WHOLE bunch of money....but you must be computer savy...because if you run into a problem, you must slove it on your own....

oh man for 2200 dollars and do it your self, I can pretty much set you up with a bad ass home entertainment system. How does playing COD4 on a 32in LCD screen sound, what about recording all your fav shows? Its so easy to get your PC to do all of that and more.

seei use to be heavly into computers, about 3 years ago, exempted all my advance tech courses i took in college, even took all my classes that made me eligble to get my A+ and IT cert! i just kinda gave up on computers lost interest.

also Turbo the alienware is a 64bit! i probably wont go with the alienware becuase it came to around 3800 with shipping adn the HP came to right around 2900 with shipping so i dont now yet what i am going to do!

yea, virgo computers are good at building custom gaming/multimedia pcs...I can't believe that I forgot to mention them....

:goodjob::goodjob::goodjob::goodjob::goodjob:..... but now that's a computer...with that 8800GT, your graphics will be superb....but I reccommend that you go with a Core Duo 2 instead of AMD 64...
