It's benefical if you go boost for better flowing, well it's better in every category.
port and polish, valve job, bigger valves, cam(s), and valve springs.

ok well on that note, what do you recommend I do to the motor before going boost?

x2, you'd be wasting ur money on the SOHC and not getting anywhere near the gains as the twin cam

your ****ting me right? There are people making 400whp on boosted d15 and 16's. There are multiple sohc setups that will wax a B motor.

to make a sohc make 400hp......money i mean, you can take half of that an make a b series /hseries hit 500-650 hp homie, an have less money then making a sohc to handle 400 hp!!!! the all motor record was like 215 hp.......am off on exact number but am close...... an it cost hella lot to make that,,,, dont waste your time with sohc.... unless your broke.......the reason why ppl do ls turbo then gsr turbo is they are broke... but you put equal amount of money into them an tune the right!!! gsr will walk on the ls...... that is the same with sohc...take to equal amount sohc/an dohc..n the dohc will walk.... i dont care who you are!!!!!!

1st of all - he didn't come in here asking about B series sh.it. I hate it when people do this.
rods, cost the same for a D or B. Pistons cost the same for a B or D. Turbo kits cost ABOUT the same for a B or D. So YES, the POTENTIAL to make more power is there w/ the B series pound for pound. But I am tired of every1 doing the same sh.it also.
I'd love to see some1 build a SERIOUS all-motor D that's not a bolt-on car. And I'd love to see some1 put 2 - 3k into a D series head, bump up the CR -- maybe a d17 crank and rods, a header, cams, and tune the hell out of and WAX B SERIES ASS!!!
To answer your question w/out suggesting you go D. MAKE SURE that you set goals for what you want, otherwuse you're halfway through a project and some1 will make you change your mind. WRITE IT DOWN! If you want to take the road less traveled and put together a serious D then go for it. And if u want to know how much serious heads will sit you back then hit Jim up at www.stewartengines.com and talk to him. You can go from a simple port/polish w/ reloaded hardware or you can go all out.
Most of all, build what YOU want to build. Good luck.

And they dont last at all. Ask Halfwit and 11281 on here about their D series setups.
this is the NA forum, D series in NA form is a waste of money, you might make 140whp with a crazy cam, built engine, thats 10-15 whp less than a STOCK GSR

to JoshuaSAE... why don't you look up Endyn or Bisimoto if you only think a D can hit 215. for those boys thats a dang street motor. and yes you will probably say that " well with the money you could put in the D you could of had a B swap" chances are he wants to be different. and hell for what you could spend in a B swap you could have a D with just much power and more torque. That could probably beat that B. but yes I also know the other come back of " well thats just a stock B and the B has more potential"
to each his own!
to the O.P:
with doing a head work on the D series it really wont pick up much if any power by doing a port / polish type work. the biggest gains from the D come from a really good valve job and work around the seat. Also, if your going to stay in the All motor / small nitrous category have the bowl worked and then welded where needed so that you can get a better quench.

heh....i have a d series and i wax b16 all day long, havent raced a b18. to you who think d series have no potential: your right, as compared to a b16 or b18. however, if someone wants to build a d series, let em do it without all the bitching. i mean all you see is b series this and b series that. if you want to go there, k series has more potential than b series. there is something always out there that is bigger and better and has more potential. so there is no sense in arguing about it
