Jus looking for a few good opinions  what do yall think is better? Bottle or Boost?

Personaly i like boost over bottle, my reason is simple, lets say your out doing you "Fast and the Furious" thing :bump: , boost stays with you all night bottle well it runs dry after a while. :goodjob:

it really depends on the application.

ok realy what i was looking for was help to settle an argument between me and a friend so simple answers will do and please dont take the "IT ALL DEPENDS" approach. Just in general which of the two is a better choise.

Boost. It can be variable for your applications, it isn't illegal to run on the street, more cost efficient and in the end has a better power band than what a nitrous bottle would. Plus wear and tear comes into effect.

how am i being an idiot? ok let me explain what got me to start the thread and yall can go from there. there are two guys in town that talk alot of **** to each other one with a turbo integra the other with a gsr swaped NO2 hatch and they have raced at 2 or 3 times but 90% of the time when integra boy ask hatchback kid to race his reply is "o well i dont have my bottle filled" then a few days later he calls him talken **** and tells him to meet him at tha drag stip. So the ONLY thing i wanted to know was which you thought would be a better choise over all.

two different engines, in two different cars, with two different types of forced induction. either could be faster...too many unknown variables.

bounds25
01-17-2008, 03:14 AM
well that is true....lets say to identical cars same engine same wieght same hp and identical drivers the only difference is one is turbo and one has nos which of the two would you say would be faster............which would you put on your car nos or a turbo?

_Christian_

on a b18, turbo for sure.

If you put it that way... Hatch with GSR swap and bottle.... Thats the end of it.

But the question still has to many variables. And thats why your and idiot. An idiot who asks a question in which he dosent point out everything so that an answer will be narrowed down to a more specific answer.

on a b18, turbo for sure.

Thats acutally wrong. Even though the b18 holds great boost, the b18 with a nitrous is a much more better. Launch, wheel spin, 60ft, Nitrous will own easily with a 75 shot... and knowing the b series to hold great power. Hence this has been proven before.

Still too many factors to play with here. Please just do a search instead of wasting usless threads.

well thanks guys...i think. This was my first thread and now i no to be more spacific on the question *FYI* the interga was running 22 psi the hatch had a 150 shot just more info i guess i should have added .

nitrous is faster than turbo given equal peak hp.

How is nitrous NOT forced induction?

forced induction is when you increase the pressure inside the intake to that above the atmospheric pressure. nitrous does not do this it simply adds more fuel and oxygen in the cylinders. it is a separate power adder though

afwfjustin

But the bottle is under pressure... I think it depends on your definition of forced induction. I think NHRA counts it...

Wikipedia currently says it is not a form, but used to say:

"Forced induction can be used to increase the power of an engine or its efficiency, or both, without much extra weight. The ambient air that the engine is normally ingesting enters the compressor inlet of turbocharger or supercharger that is inline along the air intake tract. This effectively increases the pressure and density of the air, which allows for a much greater percentage of oxygen per volume of air intake to be added to the air/fuel mixture. The effects are an increase to the effective capacity of the engine without an increase in physical size. The forced induction approach has the advantage that the intake pressure may be regulated according to the engine speed, thus providing power from extra capacity at high speed, but without wasting fuel at lower speeds. A Nitrous Oxide system is also a form of forced induction. A simple oxidizer is injected either directly (direct port) or by a single fogger...with fuel(wet nitrous system) or without fuel(dry nitrous system)."

i believe they count it as a power adder but not FI. there is NA, FI, and nitrous

afwfjustin

It's cool, there's a very fine line and it's been debated a lot. I guess I was more saying that it was a "power adder".

first nos is a brand name, the only thing i could find while i SEARCHED for this answer is that where as nitrous is a performance application propane can be used for extended periods of time and increases mpg, reduces egt's, and just overall better performance. not 100% sure though thats just what i inferred from doing a simple SEARCH. but thats fine i like to learn new things

^all i can say is neither one of you can spell. AFW might be just joking but you....you cant spell. I do not know if propane works for diesals or not, but if they do of coarse they wont work for gasoline engine.

Propane injection does work on gasoline vehicles. A lot of Viper and Supra guys use it. BTR offers a kit for the Vipers, I know.

-------------------------------------------------------------

Using nitrous or boost are just 2 different methods of getting to the same place - more power. Neither is better or worse than the other. Each has distinct advantages and disadvantages. Do you want a low cost investment, but have a little more work to refill? Then go with the bottle. Do you not mind spending a little more initially, so that you can use it everyday? Then go with boost. Can't make up your mind? Go with both....

Methonol is also a usable injection, mainly to cool boosted cars down so they can add boost or timing.. I have it on my Mustang, but don't use it ever.

Propane is different. I see it mainly used with nitrous as enrichment (cheaper than race gas). See the link. http://www.btrviper.com/nitrous.html

I don't believe that externally gated turbos are legal in georgia. Not to mention that most people are running open turbo back systems and externally vented bov's as well :goodjob:

I say boost in the sense that I like road racing, not drag racing, and any idiot can press a button to get their engine running better for a short moment, it takes skill to control your throttle and adjust for spool times in a hectic winding road.

David88vert
01-23-2008, 08:25 PM
Try using a bottle in the mtns. I used to on my FB. Not easy, but it is doable.
With either boost or bottle, ultimately you are just raising cylinder pressure to make more power.
