Febuary 23-24 there will be a SCCA SARRC/Kumho tires 5hr. enduro/ PDX at Road Atlanta. The trackday will be Sunday morning (24th). The entry fee for the Performance Driving eXperience is $100 for people who are NOT working and $20 for works on the weekend (must be registered). If you dont have a SCCA lisence, please go to SCCA.com and sign up (only $75 ($45 under24yrs) and comes with mag subscription, and $10 off all autocrosses).

There are 3 different groups A, B, and C group. A being first timers and C being advanced. If your first time, a road race instructor (me if you ask) will be in the car for instructing to learn the track and basics on racing. Each driver will get 2 20-25 minute sessions on the track.

The only thing needed is a car that passes tech (same as a autox tech) and a DOT approved helmet. This is not a timed event, just for fun and learning.

PLEASE READ THE EVENT INFO AND RULES!

Registration for this event can be found at (Atl PDX on 24th) DLBracing (http://www.dlbracing.com/default.aspx?view=1)
PM me to get temporary membership number (you will buy at track for $15)

here are a few pictures from the last event...

if not, 100$...i have no licenses but my DMV one, will get me in right?

Oz10
01-16-2008, 07:18 PM
I think the $20 is if you volunteer to work during the racing on Saturday. If you do that you can drive on Sunday for $20. Correct me if I am wrong Matt.

00CelicaGT
01-16-2008, 07:25 PM
so is it $100 to race on both days?

Oz10
01-16-2008, 07:29 PM
I'm not sure how this event is. But the race I went to with Matt had an SCCA race on Saturday (that you wouldn't drive in). I think Matt said its a 5hr endurance race. Then Sunday they had a PDX that is for all the people that just want to drive on the track for practice.

wow. im glad to hear such a response.

ok. it was my fault for not making this clear. the event is sunday morning ONLY. the other races are ones you can come and watch/work at.

you dont HAVE to be an SCCA member because you can get ur temporary lisence BUT, to work you must have it. (and to run any other event u do) ALSO, if u have ur SCCA lisence ($60 on SCCA.com) u get a free subscription to SportsCar mag, $10 off all SCCA autox's and can work a SCCA weekend and run the event for $20!

If you are working the SCCA weekend, you MUST work both days and register before hand. if you are going to work, READ THE SUPPS about works job. that is veryyyy important. and when you look at it, $100 isnt that bad, you could run with another organization and pay 3-4 times as much.

if u have any questions, please feel free to PM me.

Also for those of interested in going with loud ass cars..your going to get black flagged if you have anything more than a basic cat-back. That excludes very loud fart-cans, catless cars, and extremely loud cars with cats. Your car literally needs to be stock sounding + a little grunt to it to not get flagged off. I have cats, resonators and BB Tri-flo and if it were 10% louder it would probably get flagged.

VERY TRUE. (glad i have a race car)

step by step

1. get SCCA membership http://www.scca.com/documents/Club%20Forms/sccamemberapp.pdf
2. sign up on DLB
3. check over you car and make sure its ready for track conditions (100+ mph, hard braking, etc.)
4. get a helmet
5. have a sh!t load of fun!
6. (just for me) beat Ian's on street tires:boobies:

Or better yet, Join SCCA at the 1st Autocross, Autocross for Free, then work an event weekend at Road Atlanta and then PDX for $20.

40 minutes of instructor led track time for $20 is the Deal of the damn century.

You can get lucky and have a cool instructor like i had last time-- Mark Pombo who is a regional Spec Miata Champ (from my understanding) so he knew his ****.

Not so much cheating the system, but allowing street cars to run. The problem we've had at Road Atlanta, and by we I mean NASA, is that there isn't a noise station like at Roebling Road.

Although, I think SCCA has enough man-power that they have an actual sound guy somewhere in the infield.

The noise restriction is imposed by Hall County ordnance, and one or more Hall County police officers might be in the paddock to make sure the noise restrictions are enforced.

Most likely its just the corner workers who will be judging the sound. They alternate which station it's at so you can't "let off" when you pass by it, which they caught on to. "Hey everyone is getting caught at 7 so make sure not be loud comming out of 7...." So they move it around. I seriously doubt any officer will enforce anything at all. Never seen that in years, nor do I think they care. Road Atlanta just gets a fine if they are caught randomly, so they do a good job of making sure our asses arn't to loud.

The issue we ran into was an HPDE driver in a supercharged K20 swapped late Civic Si hatch. He had no problems when we were at RA in March last year, and got black flagged on sound when we were there in August. I *know* we don't have a sound tech, so it was purely the subjective judgment of one of the corner workers. So, I my post was written from my experience with RA, quiet hours, and noise.

$100 for drivers NOT working saturday and sunday
$20 for drivers working weekend saturday and sunday

ATTENTION EVERYONE. i called the SCCA national office today and talked to them about becoming a member. to join with the SCCA you can mail the application in to them and once received, it takes around 3-5 days for them to process and ship. OR, you can call the office and do it all over the phone.

if you want a temporary lisence for the event, it is a $15 dollar fee at the track, and the $15 pay will be transfered to a full membership lisence if you decided to get one.

about the membership # when registering. I called the Atlanta SCCA office and they gave me numbers to use. if u plan on registering for the event and paying for a temporary lisence AT THE TRACK, you must PM me for the membership #.

I'm considering signing up for this.

I've never been to Road Atlanta before so I imagine it's going to be crowded around there with the races going on that weekend. Where exactly do we go if we're signed up for the PDX?

I'm considering killing off my R compounds and getting new ones for the autocross season. Will there be an area to change tires and leave tools/jack/tires/etc...? I'll probably just run my street tires since it's my first time but just want to keep my options open if I do bring my autox tires.

Thanks for the help everyone.

All SCCA events at RA DO have sound control monitoring. I am not sure if they monitor during the PDX as running then requires 'street' exhaust to begin with.

I'm very interested in trying something new such as Road Atlanta because for the past couple years I've only done drag strips but anyway when I saw that there was a noise ordinance and that you would get flagged for being too loud it kinda broke my heart.

MatthewAPW, can you tell me if you think this would be too loud for the track? CLICK HERE (http://media.putfile.com/CRX-vs-DA-drag) . I recently got a Magnaflow resonator put in so it's a tad bit quieter than that. LMK thanks!

There are noise regulations but only on Sunday morning. On the other days your will hear the loudest cars period. If you think its so loud to risk then I wouldn't sign up for a Sunday morning one day event. Most likely every car without cats will be to loud. There are events at RA. every weekend there isn't a race so don't feel like your missing out. PC, Panoz, BMWCCA, ACNA, N.A.S.A are just some of the few clubs that run on Road A 2-3 times a year. Thats alot of events if you do them all and thats just a few. I'd also recommend joining them now as these events fill up very fast (BMW CCA,P.C etc. in a few ours to a few days from sign up day). Based on the Video your car is way louder then mine and you can't get much louder then mine on a Sunday morning.

matthewAPM

Hrmm I see, I was watching a video of you racing at RA too and it didn't seem that loud. It will be hard to get my car that quiet but who knows maybe a really good muffler will do the trick. I thought the racing event for RA was Sunday only, and Sat was for Auto-X or something else?

The road racing for the SARRC is on saturday the 23rd. The PDX (trackday) is the sunday morning the 24th and that afternoon/night is the enduro.

I am not an SCCA Member. So what is my total cost if I decide to come? Out the door? Who do I pay for each part?

Who is handling the tech? Is this run in quiet time on Sunday?

I am on like my 6th or 7th HPDE(Full weekend events) mostly with BMWCCA... Does that mean I would be in run group C? I am in B and last two weekends with BMWCCA I get signed off so where would I run?

What are the passing rules? Over the roof to the inside of the track? You say "street exhaust"... Well I pass emissions but it won't pass noise if it is quiet time...

kerndog8

Yah that too...

welcome to the world of motorsports. this is nothing compaired to other organizations

This is not completely true. While it is only "100 dollars" it is the same cost of almost EVERY other HPDE event. Take BMWCCA at RA. It is 400 dollars for 8 20 minute sessions on track. On top of that you also get 8 20 minute class room sessions talking about car control, traction circle etc etc etc

On top of that you get a catered meal AND a t-shirt!

So it comes out to the same price... 100 is less than 400 but it is the same overall price.

*edit*

25 minute sessions on track and in class room. So BMWCCA is cheaper per minute of track time ;)

Halston as far as I know its just a Sunday morning thing. I'm working the event and I signed up just to took around on Sunday...2 sessions is just enough to get me wanting more so I will prob be on street tires on that note. Your car is to loud from what I remember at CCA so i'd pass unless you want to run the E30. If you do go through though i'm sure you'd be in the intermediate group like CCA

that was prob. Halstons M/// putting around which is also alot louder then my car and gets black flagged (or would) on a sunday morning.

Sex. Maybe I can keep the Exige as a goody bag. It'll be hard to part with it after romping the little celica heart out of it for a few hours.

Haha neither would I. Hah you sure? E30= best car to learn how to go fast in. If you can run high 1:40's in a slightly modified E30 then your golden in just about anything.

I made it through last time... Need a proper turn down and extra resonator but I am not worried.

Halston send Thomas or Mike a message and tell them you want to be first in line for OBD2 stuff. I would of waited if I didn't have so many mods sitting around (including full obd1 stuff). Hah I plan to have my race car = loud then fun street car for sunday mornings to run = quiet time. My parents/siblings cars come in good use a session(S5, GTO etc.) and will greatly come in handy during quiet time if I ever get to loud.

Me.

And to clarify still some people seem not to understand. This weeknd is an actual road racing weekend, not just track day toy stuff, there will be real race cars, real racing, etc. The PDX is a driving session on Sunday morning during the quiet hour, between real racing, due to Hall county noise stuff, that's why your car has to be quiet. The SCCA does tech and all.
