read wheel drive conversion on civic/integra

what kinda trouble would i be getting myself into if i wanted to do a rwd conversion on a civic/del sol/integra or something like that. what problems will i run into, and what parts from other cars will i need. total it could cost me in the end assuming i did 100% of the work. chances are if i ever go through with this, it will be in a 95-99 civic, or any 94+ integra or del sol.

reason im asking is cause im really starting to want a rear wheel drive car, but there is no way i could push myself into driving something outside of honda/acura. im not expecting any since im in the honda section but i dont need no bashing bs, im not claiming they are the best, fastest, coolest cars. i promise, i know, that by far they are none of those. they are just what i like and plan to stick with them.

i know its alot of work, but i just dont know all the details of what the hard work will consist of. also, im not looking for something like a corvette engine in a civic, i seen the video. just something like a crv b20.

ontop of all that, how much MORE hard work would it be to make it a v6 rwd, over a 4cylinder rwb

take a FWD cars drivetrain, and from here its basically cutting the back of your car to bits and welding the other cars crap in. you better have some tubing, sheet metal, good welding skills and ALOTTT of time.

look up a SHOgun festiva for a good example of what im talking about.

not looking to do that, im talking like take a RWD motor/tranny and putting it in the normal engine bay, and making space for a drive shaft and all that. i dont want a engine in my trunk. that looks like it would be 100x more work than a rwd with the motor in the front

not really. think about it, if you do a setup like your saying, you have to fab mounts for the tranny, motor, rear diff, new suspension, and all that. at least a MR setup like i was talking about is all in one peice...

my friend had a b20 motor swap with a gsr tranny, so i know getting a b20 block in wont be a prob, and fabricating 1 or 2 mounts for the b20 tranny, and some for the rear dif. looks alot easier than chopping out the back of my car and doing what your talking about. also looking into which way takes less welding. and by far, i think putting a motor in the back takes alot more welding and shaping sheet metal. with my luck i would get it done and the body would be warped and would flex alot because of the giant hole i tried to cut and patch. either way prefer my motors in the front, not trying to build an NSX, that thing probably hold has much coolant as it does gas....! haha not really but it does take like 10 gallons of coolant

also want to keep it in the front, cause if i mess something up there is less chances of the car being completely ruined.

You will want to use a RWD transmission and mount the engine front to back in the engine bay. You will need to cut and fab the bulkhead to clear the transmission and cut and fab a transmission tunnel to clear the transmission and driveshaft. I don't know what the rear section of a FWD car looks like, but you'll need to make a RWD differential and axels fit back there.

Overall, for the amount of money and effort you would put forth to do this, JUST GO BUY A RWD CAR! Not only for the above reasons but unless you have some excellent fabrication skills and reinforce everything, you will ruin the car's rigidity.

i dont like s2000's to much, as for money it cant cost that much to do it myself? not sure whats s2k's are running for these days but last i checked it was around 9-13k, that was some time ago. and as for time, im stuck in the middle of no where in texas, i cant leave here for atleast 5 more years, i have all the time in the world, and i need something to do. ill be happier building a car i like everything about over buying one that the only thing i like is that its rwd

why dont you put in the rear diff from a crv, along with the motor/tranny. have an AWD car.

if i could find AWD tranny and what not from a crv that wouldnt be a bad idea. but in my experience of about a year and a half of working for honda ive only seen one AWD crv. ill look into that too though, definetly rather do that if i can do it to where i can chose to be either rwd, or awd, with the extra shifter or something to change it whenever

i was looking up on doing with with crv stuff said something about the crv tranny and dif are not made for higher horse power motors, not to mention the gearing in a b20 tranny sucks, it was just be easier. but random got me to thinking if it could be done with a s2000 motor.

You would easily spend that much or more on parts. If you have to do it the easiest way would be to make it a mid or rear engine setup. Anything is possible with enough money, but if you plan on doing most of the work yourself you had better be a master fabricator and have more spare time than you know what to do with.
