For those of you who don't know why Mazda did not bring them to the US....

When the NB coupe was conceived, the NB was already nearing the end of it's production run. The coupe was sold in 04 and 05 in Japan only, and Mazda knew long before that the NB production would end in 05.

So, the decision came down to cost of tooling. A full set of (extremely expensive) normal production high yield body dies, as used by the normal production model to produce hundreds of thousands of body panels, would not be able to pay off in the limited time left for the NB. The alternative was a set of much less expensive low yield body dies, that can only be used to make a few thousand body panels before they're worn out. Mazda chose to use these, and thus only had the production capacity to make a few thousand NB coupes at most.

Further, since the coupe body would have required a full certification test program to be sold in the US at a cost of a few million dollars, Mazda couldn't justify the expense of that test program for the few hundred cars that could be sold - that alone would have added a couple of thousand dollars to the cost of a coupe. It would have priced itself out of the market.

There was NEVER a Mazdaspeed version of the coupe.
The coupes came out in 2004 and 2005....welcome back.
Production was limited to small numbers.
