has anyone done this im unsure about this swap im close to doing this as i already have the gsr head and i might be getting a b16 block in the near future

im thinking of throwing in CTR pistons i wanted to know would this affect the valve clearance since i am using a gsr head

No it want, but you would have to throw in more fuel an get it tuned,I just did a friends, an B18 B1 block with b16a2 pistons very nice little set up!!!!

well josh i just used the compression calculator and it seems like i would be safe compression wise still using a oem 3 layer head gasket im going to mate it with a b16 tranny

why does every automatically want CTR pistons? Sheesh. Yeah it's a bump in CR but it's STILL an OEM piston and not something I'd beat on (the way that you're gonna wann beat on).

just don't do what this one guy i know did. ls block with b16 crank.
and since you already got a gsr head, i would just go ahead and start workin on a ls/vtec build. and why the CTR pistons? are you gonna be running all motor or boostin? all motor, yea try out the CTR heads, boostin, go aftermarket with some JE heads and eagle rods.
thumbs down on the b16 block, just doesn't give the car a lot of tq, IMO.

all motor setup no boost for this one not looking for crazy power and im kinda going on what i have right now im using the gsr head as a back up if i get a full b16 swap still keeping my fingers crossed just was playing around on the compression calculator and got surprised by what i would get with different combos

and baby j shut yo ass up

Get a jdm b20b 99-00 spec 148 HP at 6200 rpm , 136 Ft/lbs TQ at 4500 rpm at the flywheel. Redline at 6800rpm. Decent power, huh? Only around $800 from nadauto in norcross,ga. Thats rated with a crappy stock header and stock restrictive intake system. With the standard bolt-ons you should be near 160hp at the flywheel and more torque than any stock b18c or stock b16 will ever see. I would also suggest a LS tranny. I know that you didnt mention anything about a b20b, but its just a suggestion.:goodjob:

i see your point about the b20 and i may do that later down the road but this is more of a package deal if everything goes well come this weekend so there is no backing out of a b16 plus i see no point in paying 800 for a b20 when all i need is the block if i just want the plock ill put up a wtb and pay less feel me? but i do see your point and i may go that route

Work with what you have - at the end of the day the speed limit is till on a stick beside the road. Stroke the B16 for a lil more TQ and call it a day. Toss in some CPs and a good header and cams - call it day (of course u know I'd suggest a bottle too - lol)

all a GSR head will give you is a .3 bump in compression.

CTRs are ok in B16 blocks since they dont raise compression too bad. check out my thread on CTR COMPRESSION ratio in the NA forum.

P30s are better, but the availability of CTR pistons makes it hard not to use those.

CPs are nice but that means you have to run aftermarket rods. If your going to go that route you might as well do an LSVTEC or GSR. No use in building a B16 motor, they dont make enough power.

hmm no love for the b16's i have it now so there is no backing out of it but i DO want some decent power for it any options

^^

--> Drop it off at BG/MSP
--> CR test
--> if it's good, bolt-ons and a bottle (including cams)
--> if not - .5 mil overbore and bump CR (if u don't wanna stroke it)
--> if you're gonna boost it - try the importbuilders 1.7l B16

As usual - most will agree w/ Mike... as do I. But b/c it's going in an EF i will say (IMO) that it's okay to build a B16 (since it's what you have). But on the same token non-VTEC B's are readily available - toss on your head and then ur in the 1.8l game (ls/v) for cheaper than sourcing a GSR which can set u back a pretty penny even today. If it was going in any other chassis I'd suggest nothing less than 1.8L -- i do support a B16 in an EF chassis though.

PS: since u DO have another car to drive - I would not stick the motor in w/out a fresh rebuild either way - it's just good business.

dont misunderstand me.

If youre going to BUILD a motor, dont BUILD a b16. You can get an ls block and crank for $100 anywhere.

If your going to build an engine, dont do a b16 because you will be UNHAPPY. even the most extreme b16s rarely make 190whp.

WHat makes a car FUN and MOVE is TQ. Especially a honda. Why handicap yourself with a smaller engine?

Now, in EFs, stock b16s or a head swap like your talking about is ok since the chassis is light. Itll be fun, it has VTEC, and you can do alot of stuff to it.

My point was if your going to go INTO the motor, i always reccomend 1.8Ls

Not trying to thread jack--but what engine would you think would make a driver happy to build?going into a ef/eg.. is a LS decent to build for boost and make good numbers?

ill most likely just throw the gsr head on my integra and put the hatch on the bottle once the motor goes in not looking to get crazy with it but maybe some cams and def some pistons since the rings need to be replaced anyway

LS is fine for under 350whp.

Anything over that youre better off going LSVTEC

maybe i forgot to hit post i have alot of windows open. Here is where i currently sit i have a full b16a with cable tranny that needs a rebuild as 3rd grinds the piston rings were told to be going bad by the seller so if i need to replace the rings what "upgrades" should i make in doing so since i am going to have to go into it anyway. Im just going to put the gsr head on my integra and come talk to you guys at batlground when im ready as i am not ready yet lol...

Depends on the budget.

If you got $1000 to spend, id put P30s or CTR pistons in the B16 with OEM rings, new bearings, timing belt, water pump, oil pump.

If you just want to re ring it, OEM honda rings are the best
