AUTO TRANNY HELP

help i have a 90 automatic 240sx (i know..auto dont gimme **** its getting swapped soon) but the shifter can be changed through all the gears with out pushing in the brake or the button on the side of the shifter itself, which in return wont release the key...any ideas on what went wrong?
