EDIT 1/17/08
ok so i found out they are just bondo-d in...
if i whack them from inside the door what are the consequences??
need some body work guys. is this going to crack the paint on a large area around it or is there anyway i could minimize cracking. i know that obviously it is going to cause some mess and i will have to primer some of it, but what can i do to minimize ugly-ness and create less work on repair.
I DONT WANT TO REPLACE THE DOORS.....

depends on if your car still has the lock motor still attached and working so that way you can lock your car when u have handles again.
shouldnt b that hard..just use 36grit paper on an angle grinder until you get to the welded plate,it should b only tacked into place since it beling aluminum.when i welded my plate i could only stay on it for bout 10secs before it burning through.so u prolly can just hammer it out from theback.lol
then get it repainted and put bondo back on if needed to get it smooth again around the handle.cuz welding it tended to dent my metal around it so i needed alot of bondo.
Good luck with that! those poles and locking stuff is a pain!lol

yeah its all mechanical stuff, no electronics so i just have to get the rods and such. i dont really know how to remove all the popper stuff, i havent really even looked.
my driverside door wouldnt unlock itself when i tried to get in it about an hour ago so i am done... i DO NOT want them anymore. if i get all the stuff out, i will freakin give it either to dirty octopus cause it was his car or post a thread about all the stuff and give that shiznit away, its the devil.

i have 2 doors sitting on my porch that i got recently. but they dont have anything on the inside (window rails, lock linkage, speakers), and they just cut the harness at the hinges so if it wouldnt be that bad to put some handles back on then it seems a whole lot easier.
i can just use the other doors i have for door panel parts or something because i really dont want to wire them back up, put window regulators back on, install the factory windows, paint the doors... just seems like a big ol ***** when my doors are fine... they just need handles

oh that brings up another good point, i had to remove part of my window tracking,so i could get the actuator on the door..so you might have been lucky and had enough room to keep it.but i had to take mine out.

Hey i have an idea. Bring it to the house one day and well look at it from inside the door. well take the panel off and see where it was welded. We might can get away with as little paint damage as possible on the outside if we can somehow knock the welded plate on the inside out. Tape the outside up and try using a chisel, etc.

yeah im down. im really ok with some primer spots or something if we can get that ***** to have some working handles. i just have to get the vin from phantom silvia and get a key cut for the handles.

You can do it off the barrel. You just have to take the barrel to a Honda dealership. Its how I had to get keys for that red MR2 I have.

buying new doors would be the EASIEST option you have. you can unshave them, but it'll take a good bit of time and some work to get all the mechanical stuff back in. make sure you have the handle in the right spot. the door poppers shouldn't be to much as a hassle to remove, depending on the location.
if you got the time and tools to to install the manual doors, do it. if not, might want to look for some new doors.
i had a client want me to do it to his civic, wasn't fun, but yea you can do it.
*EDIT*
if you know how to spot weld, you can buy new skins for the outside of the door. and just replace skin. holes should be cut and ready to slap on.

I have new doors but they are gutted and this has potential to be free besides just some minor door work...
i am getting it painted soon so i can get it fixed pretty easy.
i've already had the debate on page 1 about how much of a pain in the ballz it will be to wire up a new set of doors, putting window regulators/window blah blah vs. just whacking a bondo plate off.
i would have changed the door perhaps if it was a welded plate because then your dealing with grinding rather than sanding. i mean this is plaster vs. metal now, so i am ahead of the game with bondo on the door. im just wondering how bad a body guy thinks this will jack my paint up. if it will just crack the bondo in the area thats ok... it can be sanded off, but i just dont want to to crack the paint past an inch or two off the handle.

i suggest u find the outline of the door handle, then tape off the area u dont want to mess up and go from there. g/l

hey i do collector car restorations for a living so this is exactly kinda **** i do on a daily basis ( not unshaving doors on a honda but making and putting in patch panels), metal working, blocking, painting, polishing etc.. since you have an extra set of doors, take a piece of poster board and make a template of the outside handle, making a reference with say the window line and edge of the door ( so you know where exactly to position it on the shaved door). then come in say a half inch smaller than the actual size of the handle ( just to be safe) and start digging that body filler out. before you start digging. use a fresh razor blade to carefully score the paint around the area where you plan to dig out. thats why i say dig a smaller area than the actual handle size at first so you can get down inside there and see what you are up against. by cutting the surface and staying inside the lines you wont screw up your paint job as bad as say getting out the da and going to town on it. if the metal around the door handle is screwed up too bad just cut the handle section out of the spare doors you have, cut the same part out of the shaved doors and weld the new patches in place. KEEP THE METAL COOL whenever welding on thin stuff slow and steady wins the race and keeps you from having to pile bondo sky high on there after you are finished and spend the rest of your life blocking them trying to get them straight for paint again. keep a blow gun or really wet rag to quickly rub over the weld after each tack. unless you are god or super man it is impossible to run a non stop bead on sheet metal without it melting and or warpping. any other questions i'd be glad to help share some knowledge.
