The king is dead, long live the king! Lexus’ long-awaited LF-A has unofficially smashed the lap record at Germany’s Nürburgring, with a time of seven minutes, 24 seconds. That beats Porsche’s new GT2 by a second and makes the Lexus the King of the ’Ring. Company insiders have revealed that a 4.8-litre V10 – co-developed with Yamaha – powered the record-breaking test mule. It revs to 9,000rpm and pumps out 552bhp. Combined with a highly aerodynamic body, it should enable the LF-A to hit 210mph.

i feel ya.. and i wasn't really doing a direct comparison.. but you have to respect the fact that it beat the porsche gt2 and all of the other supercars out there. Lexus doesn't have a "history" with building supercars so this is a huge feat in my eyes.
i also am looking forward to the new nsx but at the same time, honda usually looks for a well balanced car vs a high hp machine... maybe things will change, but i doubt it.
as for the Lexus, and as mentioned above, you get what you pay for and in this case, im sure reliablity will follow as well unlike many of the other cars at this price level.

Sweet car. Looks badass to boot.
Like most have said, it shouldn't be compared with the GT-R. A comparison to the GT2, F430, SLR, Gallardo, is more like what it should be compared to. When you talk about reliability issues, what issues? You can't expect a high dollar performance car to not have issues. People buy them to go fast, and that comes with a price.
You've got to think some though....of all the long ass straights on the Nordschleife, it would have smoked the GT2 with a 210+mph V10, but the margin was only a second.
Some of you may be thinking, well damn...it probably doesn't handle for ****, but the Nordschleife tests high speed cars. Plain and simple. It's not easy getting a car to turn @ 175+

However, the US wants Porsche to put in another airbag and Porsche won't do it. Thus, they told the US to "**** themselves" and will no longer sell the car here (last I heard).Well they no longer sell it here cause the car is out of production.

Right, so being that the radical is a "newer" type car, it has to have them as well if they are to be legal in the US. The car isn't based off of any other car (as far as I know), so I doubt that it could get grandfathered in as a replica of any sort.

I believe that it is still in production in limited quantities. Either way, the US law is what killed off the market for producing them if that is the case.

I believe 2006 was the last year of production, with a total run of about 1250 cars. However, they originally planned on 1500, yet the sales weren't what they expected so they lessened the production amount.

"Originally a production run of 1,500 cars was planned. But Porsche announced in August, 2005 that it would not continue production of the Carrera GT through 2006, citing discontinuation was due to changing airbag regulations in the US. As of May 6, 2006, 1,270 GT's had been manufactured, with 604 being sold in the United States.[4] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Porsche_Carrera_GT#_note-0)"

The GTR will be the same price plus it will have AWD. The twin turbo setup will cater to mods very easily.
The interior of the Vette upsets me. Remember, I come from having 911 turbo and a Land Rover; both of which had VERY nice interiors.

Yes, it would be. However, it still "feels" out of control. I dunno how to explain it. Keep in mind that my last two cars have been 450hp+ and AWD. The element of control was always there. When I drove my buddy's ZO6, it just "feels" so much more on the edge. I guess it just takes some getting used to.

The exhaust doesn't give THAT much on a N/A car; even the Vette. Putting in a new CAM is where you gain your hp.
Keep in mind that the GTR beat the C6 Z on the ring. Keep in mind that Audi has been banned from many circuit races because of their AWD setup; it was such an advantage. Now, when you talk about F1 cars, no, but in circuit races depending on the class, AWD shines.

I said DEPENDING ON CLASS when I made my statement. *sigh* If weight is a concern, then AWD is out. That's common sense.
In 1995, Audi was banned from BTCC because the Audi Quattro was unbeatable.
In 1989, Audi was basically banned from the SCCA Trans Am series (If I remember correctly, AWD was banned). Audi dominated the 1988 TA series despite rule change(s) during the season that reduced Audi's horsepower. Note: Audi came into the season with less horsepower and more weight than (most) of their competitors.
From quick googleing, it appears that AWD is banned in many racing series (from what I can tell: American Le Mans, Grand Am, GTS and every open wheel series) because it is considered an "unfair advantage".
In the series where AWD is allowed, there is usually a significant weight penalty and many times a tire size penalty as well.

No sh!t. WTF do u think i just said about the BMW. its a street car. who cares.
and its always going to be different track conditions and drivers and prep time. if u wanna hold the record u better prep and come with the best driver.
and the track length thing, yeah the difference when they changed it was just a few feet.haha I wouldn't call the CSL a street car
no radio, the entire body is CF, get hit once, and you're dead
the cabin is incredibly noisy, the factory tires are dangerous on wet roads, the only thing that makes it a street car is the turn signals and brake lights lol

this car is supposed to be the main competitor for the new NSX
Uhh, no its not. Its meant to be a Ferrari competitor. Acura has not damn idea wtf they are doing with the NSX. We saw an ugly front engine V-10 concept and it got laughed at by the press and enthusiasts. They are BACK to the drawing board.

a $130,000 Lexus comapred to a $70,000 GTR
thats like comparing a $80000 z06 Vette to an RSX.
Thats like a Ferrari compared to a G37.
This lexus will be badass, but lets not get ahead of ourselves :)
Price is not the issue. The issue is what car is FASTEST on the Ring.
Is the GT-R the best bang for the buck? Hell yeah.
The LF-A is pure, RWD, V-10 N/A, lighter and sounds like a F-1 car with a 9k redline.
The GT-R is electronic madness that anyone can drive fast. The car is that good!

LF-A Sports Car Concept
The LF-A sports-car concept was originally shown at the 2005 NAIAS to express a bold new direction in styling for the Lexus brand. The goals for the new LF-A are no different than they were with the original concept: To build a supercar with world-class performance that is uniquely Lexus.
As with all new Lexus vehicles, the styling of the LF-A is rooted in a design direction called L-finesse. The concept of L-finesse was used to shape and detail the original LF-A, and it was used to reshape, redetail and redefine this latest version. Lexus has further refined the styling of the new LF-A to enhance its exotic nature with a greater use of curved surfaces and interesting details.
The running gear of the LF-A is just as it was with the original, powered by a high-revving 500-plus horsepower V10 engine. Its front mid-engine placement, along with a rear-mounted transaxle and rear-mounted radiators, allows for excellent weight distribution. The horsepower, superior aerodynamics, and revised styling make a top speed of 200 mph not only possible but probable.
An “F” logo, indicating the vehicle’s status as a part of the new “F” marque, is located on each front fender.
“The first LF-A was a pure concept, but one that we went so far as to conduct engineering analysis on,” said Carter. “This latest concept is much closer to a vehicle that we would bring to market, and one in which we will be gauging consumer interest.”

So I took the liberty of chopping some colors. Iono what other colors you guys might want to see, so just let me know. Also, I used this view since it's my favorite view and in my opinion probably closer to production than the front view.

that car is gorgeous. i agree on the point that the NSX will most likely not compete. Honda has never been in the game for raw power and numbers. However, that is the reason that the original NSX was so misunderstood, it never was very fast (not for the money) but it was BALANCED, which is why the few that get it, love them.

The NSX really changed the game as it was good looking, reliable, nice interior and drove incredibly. The Germans and Italians had to answer.
The NSX-R (We never got it) is considered one of the greatest driving cars ever made.
http://www.wallpapers-land.net/cars/images/large/Honda%20NSX-R.jpg
Honda waited too long to revise it and then discontinued it. They lost more than $780 million on the NSX project allegedly. We have now seen 2 NSX concepts in 5 years and they are no closer to production today than 5 years ago.

its a bad-ass car, but no need to have a 210mph top end. thats just ridiculous, no need for anyone to go that fast. maby 180, even then its still pushing the limits.
the nsx it might have a chance cause like it was stated above, it has a really good balance, and with the right amount of power behind it and a good gear ratio it just might keep up, may not beat it, but at least hang with the comp.
invest a little more money in the gtr and kick the lexus ass and still save money

It battles exotics and its about bragging rights. Hell we technically don't need cars to do 100mph in America, let alone 200 or 210.
The NSX would be killed and the NSX-R wouldn't stand much better, its best times on the Ring are;

Good grief, give it up on the stupid Radical already.
It might be "street legal" in some states, just like a lot of retarded stuff is allowed in some states and not others. Are there "RADICAL" dealerships? What kind of annual production and sales numbers do they have? Does it pass emmissions? Does it have the proper safety equipment? Well, if the "no's" outnumber the "yes" then there's your answer.
Didn't the Koenigg have some issues a few years ago qualifying for some records because of productions numbers?

But you have to take into consideration, that the lexus is still in the concept stage. So who knows how it'll look when they start the production starts. Im sure it'll be a badass car all around, power, handling, braking, ect. To me, as it sits right now, it's not the best looking car. To me, I would go with the GT-R. :p

Didn't the Koenigg have some issues a few years ago qualifying for some records because of productions numbers?
it passes emissions if you put the proper emissions equipment on it, just like any other car. and of course it has the proper safety ****, you think they would let somebody RACE it if it wasnt safe enough for street driving? dont think so.
as far as production/sales numbers go, its a small number but its enough to be a production car.
get off your high horse about the new lex being the fastest production car on the ring. ITS NOT.

Again, WE did not say it, the EXPERTS are. NOT US. So get MAD at THEM. Clearly you know MORE than them.
How can you SERIOUSLY compare these 2 cars? One is a real car, the other a damn go-kart with a car engine.

I'm not on any high horse. I'm just tired of hearing the same thing over and over and over and over again. Get some new material for God's sake. We got it. YOU would have sex right up the the Radical's tailpipe, we got it. It would seem the only one on any horse is you with your Radical OCD. Give it a rest.
Did the LFA beat the GTR's time? Yes or no? THAT was what the thread was about, was it not? Did the Lexus beat the GTR or not? It did. So why do ying yangs like you have to come in splitting hairs about crap that has nothing to do with that? If that's riding a high horse, then screw it....giddy up then.

if its not, then it really doesn't matter to me.
i just cant accept the LFA as a supercar, i think its the lexus name...lol when i hear that i think of Luxury not performance. I also am irritated how the word "supra" was in every video on youtube with the lfa!

I can totally understand that. Its similar to 1989 when people couldn't think of Lexus as a Luxury brand.
They have clearly proven they are a serious competitor! This is is circa 1989, going to put Lexus on the SPORTS CAR map!!!

This is correct. The new Supra will more than likely be IS based and it will have the same 3.5 V-6 but with Hybrid power as well good for over 400hp.
The price should be high 30s to mid 40s with options.
The LF-A is a standalone model. New platform, new engine, everything....

Porsche named the 2007 most prestigious luxury automobile
Porsche used to be among Ferrari and Lambo but now it is with Mercedes and Luxury. Sad Embarassed

Luxury Institute Survey: Wealthy Consumers Rate Porsche, Mercedes and Lexus Most Prestigious Luxury Auto Brands of 2007
NEW YORK, NY -- (MARKET WIRE) -- April 05, 2007 -- For the second straight year, Porsche earned the top score as the most prestigious luxury automobile brand in the 2007 Luxury Brand Status Index (LBSI) survey from the independent New York-based Luxury Institute. Mercedes and Lexus tied for second place; BMW was rated third.
What wealthy consumers familiar with the brand had to say about Porsche:
-- "Fantasy, power, style and excitement."
-- "Well built, good reputation, good styling, and good performance, holds value, sporty, powerful, recaptures youth."
-- "It has always been a high-end car with design and elegance, and represents an accomplished person."
-- "It's a brand that I trust and respect. I own one and am proud of it."
"We enhanced our impartial surveys by asking for candid consumer comments as to why they would, or, would not, recommend luxury auto brands to people they care about most," said Milton Pedraza, CEO of the Luxury Institute. "Wealthy consumers tell us that Porsche stays true to its core values and to their enthusiasts. While consumers have had to endure bouts of schizophrenia and identity crises from some of their beloved luxury auto brands, Porsche remains, according to wealthy consumers familiar with the brand, an automobile that never loses its way on the luxury highway, even at high speeds."
Brands rated (alphabetically): Acura, Audi, BMW, Cadillac, Hyundai-Azera, Infiniti, Jaguar, Land Rover, Lexus, Lincoln, Mercedes, Porsche, and Volvo.
The summary results of this survey are available to members of the Luxury Board ( www.luxuryboard.com ), the world's first online community for luxury professionals, executives, and entrepreneurs.
The proprietary Luxury Brand Status Index (LBSI) survey is the only measure of the reputation of leading brands among wealthy Americans. A national sample of over 1,600 wealthy American consumers, with an average income of $313K, and average net worth of $3.3 million, was surveyed online. Survey results are weighted to match demographic and net worth profiles of the same audience according to the latest Survey of Consumer Finances from The Federal Reserve.

they are tryin to get back into it. It will star with the LFA, and the technology/performance will roll down to the others. its like that with all companies, and their top of line performance car.

Zonda F did 7:20's and is capable of 7:20 on street tires.
