Hey, I used to work at Pep Boys for about 10 months, I was a tire boy for 6 months and then moved up to a 3rd class - also known as the Mechanic possition. If you guys know anybody that needs an average mechanic, let me know. I have a resume I can send out of what I know how to do, and I also have my own tools. Too hard to get into dealerships now-a-days.

well its a who u know kinda world now a day's so if u go out and get ur ASE, it should help a lot. im 20 only and work for cadillac, but i got in because of an intership i did while i was skwl. but u also have to have more than 4 months experience. it helps when u go to skewl aswell.

you're only an average mechanic! oh! that's right i've been there before. better to underrate yourself than to overrate yourself. trust me that statement comes from experience

Goodluck bro, I have been at Phil Cook Chevrolet for about 5 months now. I started as oil change tech, tire tech, and b!tch boy. Now I am working on getting ASE certified, and am doing more technical things. The first of the year I am getting promoted to Service Advisor. In high school, I worked for a Dodge/Ford dealer. It's really hard to get a good job at a dealer, but it's all about who you know, and once you get it.....you got it made. Enough of my senseless rambling, and good luck to you again. You may want to get somemore expirence under your belt.

Stay away from dealerships. Find a good independent shop. You'll learn more, and it will benefit you more in the long run. You can also make lots more money working for an independent than a dealership. Feel free to pm me if you have any kind of questions.....

I agree and disagree with this statement. I hardly knew anything before I started 5 months ago, and now I am about to be ASE certified, and moving up positions and making hella good money. On the flip side, you're right about being better off in the long run, and making more money. I have just had bad expirences with independent shops, :2cents: .
