How hard is it to rebuild a b series tranny? Grinding in 2nd and 3rd. I would assume its the synchros? thanks in advance....

its not to bad if you remove and reinstall in a clean area where you can spread out. I replaced all of my synchros and it was not to bad, just gotta remove each part and place them in reverse order so when you put it back together, its all the same. Transmissions are the devil sometimes though.

Ok i did my homework a little. do i need to replace the main shaft sychros or the counter shaft sychros? Im obilvious to what everything looks like but i looked at some diagrams and have a broad understanding. The dealership sells ctshaft and mnshaft seperate and the prices vary greatly. Like $170 to $381.

You need to buy 2nd gear synchro asmblu, 3rd if those are the known issues. go with Gearspeed, or OEM Honda.

I replaced mine. Honda sells them, but they'll only sell it with the sleeves. If you want only the synchro rings you'll have to call up gear speed. They sell them separately.

You should take it apart and check wat all you need before ordering the parts.... depending on how bad the other guy was driving with the grinding gears, it might require more than just syncros...i would go with snycros and the sleeves as well...and if the gear it self is screwed because of the sleeve being really bad, the price is gonna go up

Yeah i guess all thats left is to take it apart... but yeah i think ill replace 2nd and 3rd synchro assembley(if and when) If it cost more than 500 bucks to fix i think ill just sell it.

I also have another question... im not a 100% sure what everything is. Whats the difference between the synchros on the main shaft and counter shaft? Would i need to replace both or just the ones that need it? Im a noob a transmissions

I believe parts will be close to 500...
Main shaft has your 3-4 and 5-R, counter has your 1-2 synchros.
