Okay, so my buddy and I take the FC out for a spin today. Insurance, Papers, Title, etc. Everything cleared with me. Go around Gwinnett Drive, and end up being pulled over by Lawrenceville. My buddy sort of floored it a little bit until he saw the cops pull right behind us...

Next thing you know: Turns on his blue signals, and pulls us over.

"License and Registration, insurance, please..."

No problem, we hand it over to him and he aggrees there is no problem, but one little tiny mistake that ends one of my best friends behind bars. He had a racing ticket back in october in which he gotten taken care off, he said he paid the ticket off or whatever with a lawyer and they dropped it for him. Then the cop said...
" Well in november, you've gotten your license suspended. "

So why the hell do they never send in a notification or a slight notice to people ?

That's fu**ed up man ... Really fu**ed up.

my buddy is in a similar situation where he got a racing ticket but is not sure if his license is suspended or not because he hasnt been pulled over since then.

it makes no sense to me.

I was with my best friend when an almost identical thing happened. You know why he didn't know? He just paid it via mail, didn't go to court. Because if you go to court, even if you just plead guilty and pay it...if they're going to suspend your license, they make you surrender them.

EDIT: And, NO, cops don't do this on purpose. It's YOUR responsibility to know if you're driving on a suspended license or not, they're just doing a job.

ive always recieved notification of when mine where about to be suspended(but this was due to not feeling like taking the time to go pay it until the very last minute.)

I had a friend in the same situation. He had multiple speeding tickets and didn't realize his license was suspended. He ended up spending the night in jail. As sucky as it is, it's the drivers responsibility. Sorry bud.

Edited again: I kept reading what I said and it kept not making sense, so I'll shorten it:

No, COPS don't do it on purpose, but I think the COURTS do. They inform you of everything else BUT this, and it IS their job to notify you for this kind of thing, they don't because they pass the buck to the DMV to notify you for some reason, which is BS.

Maybe its just me...but, given the choice, I would rather the courts spend their time putting "real" criminals behind bars...you know, people who kill, rape, and drive drunk versus reminding you that the 3 speeding tickets you "paid" for have come due, and your license is expired.

Take care of your business.

You won't be taken to jail unless you've been "served" the suspension. If you're pulled over and have a suspended license, but records do not show it being served; they'll let you go with another driver. If records show you've already been served with the suspension, then off to jail you go.

well if its their job to enforce the law, they should probably tell you what your punishment is.

Blame it on the cops for pulling up a record and doing their job . The DMV have so much **** to deal with, its gonna take time to give out notice. Sometimes you gotta watch your ass dealing when with the DMV.

I used to call all the time. It's a good habit to get into. Especially if you know you've had tickets and such in the past. Hail, it's free and open 24 hours a day. Why not? Later, QD.
